Default I\'m confused and hate how I played this hand.

Commerce $20-40.

Button is new to the game. I've never played with him before, but he is a regular and I am familiar with his game from watching tables he was playing at. I've played with his wife a lot as she played the $9-18 for several years. Their playing styles are similiar...limp too often, unfamiliar with hand values, unfamiliar with correct aggression. The only deviation in their play is that the hubby gets spazzy aggressive at times and thinks everyone is out to get him.

SB is unfamiliar to me and also new to the game. He is waiting for a $40-80 seat. He almost has to be 2+2 as he appears as though he would make an outstanding dungeon master. He appears to never have outgrown the highschool awkward look.

So I am BB. Fold to button. He raises. SB 3 bets. I look down at AJs. I have no idea what to do? Help!

My only thought process here is that BB is raising with a decent range(any pp, any two face, any Ace particularly suited), and sb knows this and is three betting a wide range.

Given descriptions, 4-bet, button will hopefully release a lot of his hands thinking he's way way behind and then you get position. See flop and take it from there.

If you get 5-bet by SB, I'm praying for you.

WWSD? (What would Stoxtrader do?)

I think he would cap. The benefit of this is:
a) Button might fold and you get position for the hand
b) You have initiative in the pot and will win more often when both of you miss the flop
c) Value against worse hands like AT/A9 and KJ/QJ that will never get away from a Jxx or Axx flop because of the blind-steal situation
d) Your hand plays fine in a large 3-way pot even if button does call 2 more.

This doesn't really seem likely given this:

4-bet or fold, but I'd lean towards folding given that button will likely call 2 and I haven't seen sb play yet. I'd hate to be stuck in the middle with this hand on a dry flop.

So if he calls 2 more with any two, there's a high probability that he'll call with a worse hand? There's worse things in life.

I hope you're not advocating folding because of this.

Not advoacting folding. Just pointing out possibly flawed thinking in the post.

I have nothing to add other than I tilted hubby so bad last week he screamed at me, called me crazy, slapped the table, and wasn't seen for almost two hours.

LOL. Awesome.

I capped. Hubby and Dungeon Master call. Flop is KQ6 with one of my suit. Dungeon master checks. My move is?

12 small bets in the pot. Gutshot + backdoor flush draw + fold equity against small pairs + the possibility of folding button getting position + maybe just maybe taking it down right then and there (probably a stretch, yes)? Gotta go with the bet, Vanna. Check-calling hurts my soul.
