Living in Italy

I was in Italy this past summer, but only Rome. I can tell I like Italy, but wouldn't enjoy living in Rome if that makes sense.

My issues with Rome:

- Not nearly enough nightlife. This was huge, the nightlife was just horrid in Rome.

- Not much culture for someone living there. In fact just not much to do in general after your first few days as a tourist seeing the Vatican and ruins. It was awesome to see, but I have little desire to go back to it.

I had other smaller gripes but those were the main ones. City was pretty dirty/unsafe as well compared to what you might expect for Europe.

Yeah, Florence should be more or less what you are looking for. On the other side Bologna as a big student city (but not only) has his own fair ammount of nightlife and at the same time from there you can reach many other spots like the same Florence, Milan and Rimini/Riccione (cool summer spots).

Where are you staying in Sydney specifically Metetron? I was going to see for surfing Margaret River in WA might be better, but not if you require a great night life.

Florence seems to be the overwhelming recommendation. I'll look more into it. Still quite a while until I will have time to fit this move in since I've already got Sydney & Barcelona up first, then I have to wait to be able to re-enter Europe again and I want it to be warm.

Where in Italy you stay will depend entirely on what kidn of experience you want. If you want city nightlife and art, Florence is obv a good pick. If you want peace and quiet and beautiful views, you might want some place else in Tuscany/Umbria, or even up north near the mountains (Dolomites, Alps) and Lake Como.

Go to Bologna. I was there for three months this year learning Italian at an italian language school called Cultura Italiana. It's a big university city (1/4 of the population are students) with awesome food and architecture. Nightlife is rocking every night of the week until late. If you really want to learn italian then Rome or Florence won't be as good because there are loads of tourists and more people in shops etc speak english.

Also, any time you see a hot girl, say "Che pezzo di culo" and they will love you for it. bahahahahaahaha

I'll consider Bologna. If you refuse to speak English with the locals it doesn't matter much if they can speak it though.
