Default Help me be a better (corporate) financial analyst

I recently started a new job as a senior financial analyst for a midcap construction company. Before this job (with 3.5 years of poker playing in between) I was a auditor for Deloitte. Despite the title much of my job consists of accounting but there is a lot of opportunity to then use the numbers to provide additional insight and analysis. The person who had the position before didn't really do any, so I see this as an opportunity to really grow and excel in the company.

Does anyone have a similar position, if so what kinds of things are you doing, how are you improving and are there any good books you would recommend?

thank you
