I think you missed a trip report here.

[/ QUOTE ] It happened exactly the way you'd think it would. Just use your imagination. Or don't.

I think he's in Laos given his listed 2+2 location.
Also, frankly I'm shocked that such crimes occur in the blissful utopia of southeast asia that many posters describe.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah in Laos. All things considered, they were pretty nice about it. In the US I probably just would have gotten jumped.

Seriously though, how big of a bind are you really in? Do you have any money at all? Can the embassy help you with ID so you can get money wired or anything?

If you had a baseball bat could you have beaten him in a fight?

[/ QUOTE ] I could definitely have taken on the one guy with dull knife since it would only have the stabiness and none of the cuttiness.

I don't think I would have been able to take four guys armed with a knife and taser unless they came at me one at a time, movie style. An aluminum bat would have given me like another 4 hitpoints.

I emailed a bunch of my relatives. It's 2am in the US so I probably won't hear anything for a few hours. Some of them think I'm a total degen for playing poker, but they're not about to let me starve. I have literally around $.40 right now so I probably won't be able to eat until tonight, but that's not too big of a deal. I have my passport so no problems there. The thing that really pisses me off is that I usually leave my epassporte card in my room in case something like this happens. I happened to have it with me yesterday because I made a withdrawal earlier in the day.

My other problem is that this gay dude lives like two houses down from where I'm staying. I saw him about 20 minutes ago and confronted him. This guy is significantly bigger and stronger than me and has a reputation for getting into fights, but I scared him badly enough for him to lock himself in his house. He works for the government (Ministry of Justice) and claims he his going to make my life hell if I stay in Laos. There's a strong possibility that that he's not BSing here. This is what I'm most concerned about now. It's possible some cops could show up or something and I'd have no way to bribe them.

There were two or three guys on another bike. I accepted the ride because I didn't know exactly where I was, just the general area, and I was happy to not have to wander around semi-aimlessly. The Lao people are generally very helpful and similar things have happened before without incident.
