Default Dumb Noob Question (Trips in the Hole)

With the hole, can only use 2 cards thing. Describe in whatever fashion pleases you how bad it is to have 3 of a kind in your hand.

For Example: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Edit: My guess is Rearry bad.

Oooo, just the knowledge that it's unlikely anyone else shares your nut low? I like it.

but not AAA3r?

LOL

OP - 3 aces with a low card is a strong hand. Raise it up. Any other trips hand is mostly worthless.

OP, just so you know:
These guys are generally refering to the strength you can represent knowing that three aces of four are in your hand, and since nearly every playable starting hand in O8 contains an ace, you are likely to get lots of folds if you raise with AAAx hands. This will probably not work as well as you'd like at low stakes, so splitsuit was trying to show that it is helpful to have a backup plan, like a low draw or suitedness, to go along with your AAAx. Note that any trips hand besides AAAx realy sucks (I might play A222s, but that's about it, and it's something you'll get every 10K hands so it's not a big deal).

I am new to Omaha, but not to poker. I am certainly no pro and have much to learn, which is why I'm here. I'm smart enough to see the math in having one ace left in the deck makes sets and full houses less likely, but was curious if there was other things to consider.

And despite the question being almost rhetorical in nature, some good qualities about the trip aces have been brought to light anyways. So the thread is serving its purpose.

AA93 > AAA3

in fact, against a random hand, AA93>R @ 65/35
and AAA3<R @ 47/53

and i wud never suggest folding an AAW
almost ever.

even with limited ability i still suggest playin AA93.

(btw, why are we arguing?)

For what it's worth, in MTT Donkaments, I regularly see AAAx take down half the pot with the flush. I'm not the one holding these cards, and who knows how many of these got mucked once they missed their only draw.

These flush-draw-only hands make little sense in cash games, but they might be worth seeing a flop cheaply in the early levels of a donkament if at least 5 people are seeing the flop cheap. Half of a pot chock-full of dead money is occasionally worth a look-see.
