Yep. But he didn't. What possible difference does it make that he was 'clearly calling?' Its still Gold's fault for acting out of turn and being a spaz. Wasicka didn't want even the presumption of an angleshoot, so he went with his original intention. But he didn't have to...because he HADN'T called, even though he was going to.

Last time I was at a table and I was going to fold (because I figured a guy would bet) but then he didn't so should I fold? I mean, I was going to, but then I got this new information. Gold gave him extra info because he is a spaz.

Lets say I just reach for my chips and clearly look like I'm going to call and my intention really is that I'm going to call. I'm not stalling or trying some sort of fake-out.
I'm just reaching for my chips and am about ready to call.
The other guy sees this and screams, "You call? Woo-hoo!"
But my chips are still in my stack and I haven't done anything.
I have no problem folding my hand at this point now that the idiot opponent couldn't keep his mouth shut long enough for me to actually push them forward.

[/ QUOTE ]
I had a similar situation Saturday. I'm planning to bluff the river in a limit game. Rule in this casino is a bet is binding when chips are released in front of your cards. Villain checks, I reach out with chips in my hand planning to bet and the villain throws his call in. I pull my hand back, say "I didn't bet" and checked behind. Dealer didn't say anything and my check was accepted without question. Douchiness factor on a 1-10 scale anyone?

[/ QUOTE ]

Last month, I was playing live in a 5-5 PLHE/PLO round of each game. I lost a couple of pots early and had maybe $275 when this hand started. I raised in PLO with Aces double suited, and got two callers. Maybe $75 in the pot. I flopped an overpair and the nut flush draw, and got bet into ($40).

I said "Well, I guess I am going home early tonight" and raised to 160 straight. I did not say all in. I still had 18 red chips ($90), and I was holding them in my left hand. I wasn't intentionally trying to hide them, nor was I intentionally trying to suggest I was all in. It just happened.

My foe called the 160 straight, and flipped over his hand exposing a wrap straight draw. I asked what he was doing and he said he thought I was all in. I showed him my chips and told him I never said all in. He said he didn't see my chips.

The turn gave me a flush. I bet my last 90 of course, which he called. I don't know where the 90 bet stands on the D-bag scale, but I do know I was not angle shooting on the flop. My comment was more along the lines of "Well, I have lost 2 pots, I guess I am going to lose this one too."

Another night, I was playing a 5-10 PLO/10-25 NLHE ROE game. I had ~1200 to start the hand. I called early with AJJT suited, and it was raised to 50 in late position after several other callers. I called the 50, as did John Bonetti (WSOP bracelet winner) and 2 other players.

Flop is J74 with 2 diamonds. I bet the pot, and the other three players call. Bonetti has 777, another player has 444, and the fourth has a diamond draw. Only Bonetti and I have chips left going to the turn. 444 and diamond draw are all in.

Turn is Ad, completing the flush. I check and Bonetti checks. River is Ax, giving me top boat. I bet $850 all in. Bonettie now has 777AA. He starts to cut his chips over the line. The dealer says "Call." I turn my hand over.

Bonetti then says "I wasn't calling" after seeing my hand. I would not have exposed my cards had the dealer not said "Call." The house sided with the dealer, and made Bonetti put in his $850, then cut Bonetti a deal on the side since he plays at that room quite often.

He said "ALLRIGHT you talked me into it".

[/ QUOTE ]
And then he stood up and reached to turn over his cards, you only ever stand up in a live tourney when you are in danger of being busted out. There would be no reason to stand up if he was folding...

His saying he was angling playing seems like putting gloss on what after all is a bad call. Wasicka must have grown tired of people telling him how unlucky he was or whatever. Plus it is just a poker instance of someone trying to disassociate themselves from a decision they have made. It happens all the time in life. Wasicka played a hand and lived to regret it. He will have to learn to live with it and one of the mechanisms for doing that is to say that somehow he did not call. It is no different from Gold wanting to renege on the 'deal' he had...

Mmm, just watched this again. Wassy meant to call, no doubt about it. He surely didn't realize at the time, that he could go back maybe, like we are discussing here. He meant to call, and if he says he didn't now after looking back he's probably just lying or wants the attention. He meant and did call or else you'd have known about it right then and there. No way he isn't challenging that if he didn't mean to, for the ME title.

Gold is still annoying as hell, but people just made him so much better than he was. He talked so many people into doing the wrong thing, I'm surprised someone didn't pick up on the fact that he gave his hand away often. Then again I've only seen the TV hands so he might have been completely different at other times making him harder to read.

Cliff notes: Wasicka called and he wanted to call.

Yes, of course. He eventually called, and he admitted he wanted to call. I'm not sure why people keep making arguments focusing on this. No one is saying he didn't mean to call, or that he didn't eventually call, at least not any more. The thread title is misleading. The point is, right before he called, when Gold flipped over his hand, Wasicka was entirely within his rights to fold his hand and this would NOT be an angleshoot. Thats the only interesting issue here.

Can you clarify this? Was he definitely calling?

"ok, you talked me into it" and then standing up in the way he did, clearly implied he was calling.

[/ QUOTE ]

It is possible that "ok you talked me into it" meant "ok you talked me into folding."
