Default The second imaginary number

How important is the second imaginary number in mathematics? I am of course talking about h the number whose square is -2.

Are you familiar with the field of complex numbers or the complex plane? Your number h is simply one element of the field of complex numbers, and frankly I've never heard it referred to as the "second imaginary number" (and I'm a math guy).
