Default Caddyshack: Monthly Movie Marathon

Gunga Galoonga

Yep, I watched it again, laughed a lot, and thoroughly enjoyed Caddyshack. I really have to say it isn't the best comedy ever - the other 3 already discussed beat it easily, and do several other films (Life of Brian, Spinal Tap, Love and Death to name a few)

Still, it was fun to live. I'd forgotten all that stuff Murray does that's pretty obscene (pumping that groundskeep thing while leering at the middle-aged lady golfers, walking with a big hose so that the front is handing between his legs), and Murray is just great in it (and it's not a typical Murray character). And the bit where Murray bites the 'poop' in the swimming pool is priceless.

And I never did get why the gopher sounds like a dolphin.

One thing about it I'd never really noticed is how it really is a patchwork of performances and in some respects extended sketches (example: Chase playing thorugh Murray's living quarters; the priest playing his best round of golf ever through lashing rain and storm), hung on a thin plot. It probably shouldn't work (with Rodney Dangerfield essentially doing his stage act every scene, Chase acting aloof and weird, Murray acting slobby and out of it), but it does work, and very well.

What can I say? Wanna make $14 the hard way?

'right in the lumberyard'

I am the only one who loved this line, I have never had anyone else remember it.

Caddyshack is one of the funniest movies of all time. Once I threw a Baby Ruth in a pool on vaction just to see if I got the same reaction. I did oh well.

Wasn't it;

"All right, Smails, that's grand.
Now fork it over!
I'll give you nothing!
Absolutely nothing, you understand!
I figured as much! Hey, Moose!
Rocco! Help the judge find his checkbook.

Well, l...l will. Hey, everybody!
We're all going to get laid!...."

I just rewatched for the first time in about a year. I love Caddyshack but at this point in my life I may just be Caddyshacked out. I have seen it probably 40-50 times and know it by heart. Not a week goes by up in my office when either I or someone else quotes it. The movie has truly and genuinely crept into my life and my culture. The first few years of of the early SNLers move to the big screen (along with Ramis, Kenney and Brian Doyle Murray) produced some of the greatest comedies ever.

I just saw this recently and was laughing the whole time. It's been a while since I've seen it. I really need to buy it.

I started crying when the old man was going after the course record, walking up the hill while it was pouring rain lol the music, everything was perfect.
