during those years when Nash won the MVP

Dirk 1 26.1 PPG 9.7 RPG
Dirk 2 26.6 PPG 9.0 RPG

Dirk now 25 PPG 9.4 RPG

so Dirks numbers are ever so slightly down, but nash's are slightly up

it seems the only thing to stop nash from getting another MVP is the stigma of him winning 3 in a row, and joining an even more elite company than he already is in.

[/ QUOTE ]

Or the fact that NBA players are not solely judged on 3 criteria..possibly.

[/ QUOTE ]

okay lets look at some others

Team wins
Suns: 2nd Mpv yr 54-28
Mavs: 2nd Mpv yr 60-22

Suns: 1st Mvp yr 62-20
Mavs: 1st Mvp yr 58-24

Right now Mavs 59-11, Suns 53-11

looks pretty similar to the 2nd mvp year so far (suns being 6.0 gb)

also what other stats do you want to look at Nash's FG, 3 have all increased as well this year (as has dirks).

Right now it's Dirk, but if Kobe averages 40 ppg the rest of the way and the Lakers get to the 4th seed in the West, I'd vote for him.

Explain this to me

1st MVP: 15.5 PPG 11.5 APG
2nd MVP: 18.9 PPG 10.5 APG

This yr so far- 18.8 PPG 11.5 APG

so if he was found to be worthy twice, by the numbers alone shouldnt he win again?

[/ QUOTE ]

But if Nash were really not worthy of these two awards, doesn't that make the point moot?

Cause if they looked at all statistical catagories neither guy would win it. Wins, especially most wins in the league overkill any stat.

Do you think Jordan got worse the year Malone won the title?

In 1995-1996 MJ averaged 30.4/6.6/4.3 P/R/A and Malone averaged 25.7/9.8/4.2. Utah won 55 games, Chicago won 72.

In 1996-1997 MJ averaged 29.6/5.9/4.3 and Malone averaged 27.4/9.9/4.5. Utah won 64 games, Chicago won 69. Yet Malone won it.

ah exactly, that is the only argument that i currently accept.

however, if you think that he did deserve them, that what is your logic in saying he doesnt deserve them now?
(that 2nd question is a lot more relevant to the people that decide the MVP voting and voted for nash)

Nash shouldn't have won either of the last 2 years, so it's not relevant that his stats this year are better. You must compare Nash's play this year to other players' play this year, not Nash's play vs. his other seasons.

Karl Malone's MVP is the stupidest travesty of an MVP that has occurred in my lifetime, so that's not really helping your argument either.

Shouldn't have won the MVP but what rule? Who should have won it?

Honestly, I don't like Nash but he makes their O run. Maybe it's b/c their backup PGs suck, but without him they aren't a very good team. I know they have a stacked lineup but I can see reasons for him getting the MVP vote. Kobe might have been the best overall player but it doesn't make him the MVP.

The logic is that people voting for the MVP awards in all sports don't use logic. That is why so many of the MVPs in recent history in all sports haave been horrible choices.

Not that this is relevant this year, but Nash is competing against different people for MVP this this than last year.

Some different, some the same.

Dirk finished 3rd when nash won his 1st and again 3rd when nash won his 2nd.

To me Dirk is the other front runner, so i used his numbers as comparisons.
