Default Throwing Arm Injury

About three years ago our school had an intramural dodgeball season. Instead of the standard rubber balls that year they decided to use a very light nerf-like foam ball. It was really difficult to throw with any velocity unless you really whipped it. After the games everyone's arm is very tired and sore. One game left my shoulder in intense pain, I couldn't move it the rest of the night and had to ice it down. I sucked but I didn't think too much of it.

I haven't had a throwing arm since. Any time that I try to throw a football or baseball with any speed there are pains in my shoulder again. I don't play too often but when I do it's kind of embarassing with weak tosses every time I touch the ball.

I know nothing about sports injuries, what's wrong here? I figure if it hasn't healed itself in three years there's probably something seriously wrong. Is there anything I can do to get this fixed without surgery?

Default Re: Throwing Arm Injury

tony,

The steps to fixing this problem are as follows:

1- Go see specialist(s)
2- Listen to what they say

Without testing your range of motion, possible diagnostic testing, etc. we can all at best guess what the situation is. I don't know what your insurance situation is, how easy it would be to find a good doctor or how you can fit it in personally but I think it's the obvious choice to seek professional help before you try to rehab (and further damage) an injury that may need surgery.
