That's a good thing. But when the offers come in from other teams, we'll see how badly he wants to stay. Any potential deal the Red Sox would offer would almost certainly be shorter and cheaper than the offers he will get from other teams, especially given the year he just had plus the fact that there's no good UFA 3B out there this offseason.

His deal with obviously drag out after A-Rod's most likely unless one of two scenarios unfold:
A) Sox immediately get it done somehow
B) Yanks press him hard and throw a lot of money and a 3-4 yr deal at him

Otherwise it will go till someone signs A-rod then the losers will fight for Lowell. Right now Angels have to be the front runner with their anemic offense.

I don't think that his deal has to get done after A-Rod's. Most of the teams that will go after Lowell will have absolutely zero shot at A-Rod. Besides, it's not like A-Rod's deal will affect the market again like it did last time.
