AA vs. KK is an 80% favourite so it will win 4 out of 5 times and is a 4-1 favourite A3 vs Q8 is a 60% favourite so you will win 3 out of 5 times and is a 3-2 favourite. And so on.... |

how can you tell if its a 4-1 fav instead of a 2-1 fav??
But then yes i understand a bit now and thx for the link to the 2nd poster. ALSO I was reading phil Gordons book and heres how you can determine it by pot odds. heres the quote from his book. " Pot Odds = (total pot DIVIDED by amt. im asked to call) to 1" |

The only time you'll know for sure what kind of favorite you are is when you are heads up with someone and both players' cards are face up on the table. You'll also simply need to memorize a few of the most common odds. i.e. Pair vs pair (QQ v 99) 4:1 Underpair vs over cards (QQ v AK) 1:1 1 overcard vs unpaired cards (A9 v KQ 3:2 etc. Most of the time, you can't know for sure what kind of underdog or favorite you are, as you won't know exactly what your opponent's hole cards are. We then normally use odds in terms of catching cards that will give us the likely best hand (outs). |
