In the second case, I agree we can discard anyone not on a playoff team but if you want to have a real "value" discussion then you shouldn't exclude them. As of now, I think David Wright is in the drivers seat, but if Philadelphia (Howard), Milwaukee (Fielder), or St. Louis (Pujols) make the playoffs based on the performance of one of the bats I listed, the debate gets much more heated.

If baseball is such a team game, surely no one player could be valuable enough to ensure victory.
