I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, so I'm exposed to pretentious douchebaggery on a daily basis. However, the owner of the record store profiled in this Village Voice article really impressed me with his near-unprecedented level of pretentiousness.

Rock criticism probably falls under the 90% crap/10% not crap rule that a lot of things do, but Lester Bangs is one of my favorite authors period. "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung" is a good place to start.

Phillip Seymore Hoffman played him in "Almost Famous."

No good anymore? Never liked it? I used to read it in college and couple years after (like through 2000). Curious cause don't know what like in general people think of it anymore.

It's not just the hipsters. Writing about hip-hop is just as, if not much much, worse.
