i agree with others first time is obvoiusly Borat and its not close, but Borat doesnt have as much rewatchability. Comparing these two movies seems kind of silly because Borat is so much better and more original.

i didn't think anchorman was anything special, but grew to love it. ditto big lebowski, which is now one of my favorite movies of all time. i enjoyed borat, but i think it will get worse with each replay. anchorman is close to if not already a comedy classic in my book, unlike any other will ferrell movie i've seen.

easy vote for anchorman in my book.

[/ QUOTE ]I think that's irrelevant. I'd definitely recommend Borat to friends over Anchorman who have seen neither and for some reason can only watch one of the two. But if I had to watch a movie by myself 5 times, it would be anchorman.

i don't see how that is remotely irrelevant. it is natural for people to rewatch or reflect on movies they've seen, and the poll doesn't specify that the viewings will be singular or in a vacuum. if somebody was going to get shot in the head after watching, i would recommend borat. otherwise, i would recommend anchorman because it gives them a chance to have a movie they'll love and quote for years to come. i have told a million people to watch the big lebowski at least twice for the same reason.

One of the reasons the first viewing of Anchorman is odd is that in some ways you're expecting the comedy to be kinda period driven, in a "lol 70s movie" way. Then you're hit with this totally absurdist thing and you're like 'WTF TRIDENT!?".

Then you get used to it and you're like "[censored] YEAH, TRIDENT".

I thought anchorman was ok, but nothing great. I think I've only watched it once though, and from the sound of it this might be my problem. I voted borat, but I'll watch anchorman again today and see if I change my mind.

Like Anchorman, this is getting better the more I watch it. NIN kicking in right as Baxter gets punted is [censored] awesome, as is the cannonball into the pool "...in hell!"

Maybe it's because I watched all of the Ali G show, but Borat didn't strike me as being original.
