I think it was just an easy question, there aren't many popular sports that don't use a ball of some kind.

Auto racing is a million more times popular than hockey, and it doesn't use a ball.

Hockey is one of the 4 professional major north american sports. I'm sure everyone came up with the answer by thinking, NFL, NBA, NLB, NHL...ZOMG, no ball, stop thinking now.
