Default when to move up levels in B&M ring games?

ive been playing a decent tight aggressive game at the 1/2 tables the past 2 weeks and ive built up from 150 to about 700. i keep my poker money seperate from my "real" money and usually when i cash out a winning night i will take maybe 40-50$ out for expenses, gas, random spending money for the week. so keeping that in mind i have won more than is currently in my bankroll

i also would have more if i stupidly didnt play roulette one night after having an awesome night tripling up in poker. but thats another story but i guess i learned my lesson the hard way and that is that when grinding poker it is poker and THATS IT.

so anyway im wondering when to move up in blinds, currently my usual buy in is 200 (300 max on the tables i play), and lately ive been leaving up around 100-250 profit. also i tend to leave when im anywhere between doubled/tripled up from my buy in, i know some people say you shouldnt leave when youre winning but i find i sometimes get looser if i have more chips to call marginal hands to the flop and i end up wasting chips where if i was getting the same hands when i first sat down with a fresh stack i would not even be playing because i tend to play tight ABC poker on the 1/2 tables as usually that is the only way to win with the calling stations and "gamblers" at the lowest limit in the casino.

i tried looking around but it seems all the threads about BR management are referring to online poker and im looking specificly for some tips on trying to grind 1/2 cash tables into something decent to eventually play higher stakes and afford a weekly tournament buy in of around 100 without denting the BR. but if i missed one please direct me to it, thanks!

The math is the same whether you're playing online or B&M.

I think it's wise to try to build a bankroll like you're doing. When you're short (and if you don't want to, or can't afford to get more) leave when you double or triple up. BR management is just as important as being a good player (if you're on a limited BR. If your BR is unlimited then it would be dumb to have a stop win/loss).

You're still underbankrolled for the game you're playing. If you had about $2,000 you'd be better off. Stay where you are and keep playing like you do.

you need to figure out how many buy-ins you would be comfortable losing when moving up.

I personally like to be about 20 buy-ins deep before moving up.

so if my buy in is around $500, I am at around $10K.

At the rate you are going, if you are winning, you'll be there in no time and have plenty of live experience making the transition more smooth and comfortable.

You should be comfy at around $5k-$10k Bankroll.

I think you need slightly less live than online, just because live has such a slower pace. Hope that makes sense

I was/am in a similar situation, i've built my $150 up to over $2k playing $200 nl at my local casino. I usually buy in for the minimum ($100) and go from there because even tho it might not be as +EV as buying in full, if i get coolered im only down $100 on my short bankroll. also it is usually the case that i get up over $200 anyways. What i'm planning to do is continue to short-buy until I have a "sufficient" roll of somewhere between $3k and $4k. Once i get to $5k i may start taking a couple shots at $500 nl and go from there.

Are you talking limit or no-limit here? I am a little confused. For no-limit your bankroll is nowwhere close enough to moving up and I gues you wouldn't even be able to play where you are playing.
For limit I don't get why you get up when you have doubled your buy-in. There isn#t more money at stake, so that's it.
So please clarify...

ive been playing 1/2 NL, 300$ max buy in which they actually enforce. i usually buy in for 200 so in the case of a bad beat or something it saves me 100 and in most cases winning pots here and there your whole stack rarely comes into play anyway. ive only been all in once in the past couple sessions and i ended up tripling up off QQ

Think about this a little more and I think you will realize that it doesn't make sense. You have a bankroll to protect you from downward variance. That can happen over some number of hands regardless of how fast they are dealt.

I suspect OP hasn't really had a down swing yet. OP's bankroll is too small for $1/$2 unless he intends to dip into the bank account if things go south. I took almost $400 from a guy on a full house over full house hand a week ago. That kind of thing could happen to him and he loses half of his roll. I've seen many people who I think are good or at least decent players lose $400 in a night. It's not that hard. It only takes a few second best hands - even if you do make the difficult folds.

I was referring to tilt being less of a factor because of the slower pace. Its obv. easier to tilt when you take alot of beats or w/e very quickly. Also, when you tilt live you can just get up and leave, but if you tilt online sometimes you feel like you have nowhere to go, cuz your already at home.

This argument is particulary practical, because I understand that bankroll requirements for live and online are basically the same. Im just arguing a theoretical aspect of bankroll management. You also have to factor in that the competition live in usually much softer than online, especially at the small stakes. This means that you can get away with a smaller bankroll
