dealt 3 cards now what?
A situation came up in a home game I was playing in and before the dealer completed the deal one of the players realized he had been dealt 3 cards. Is it considered a misdeal and everyone throws in their cards and they are reshuffled and dealt? No one was sure and we just continued on with the hand dealt and the player with the 3 cards agreed to muck them. Sorry if this has been asked a million times already but I tried using the search feature and didnt find anything relevant.

Re: dealt 3 cards now what?
Robert's Rules, amongst the list of misdeals:
(e) An incorrect number of cards has been dealt to a player, except the top card may be dealt if it goes to the player in proper sequence. under dead hands: (d) The hand does not contain the proper number of cards for that particular game (except at stud a hand missing the final card may be ruled live, and at lowball and draw high a hand with too few cards before the draw is live). [See Section 16 - “Explanations,” discussion #4, for more information on the stud portion of this rule.] in irregularities: 11. Before the first round of betting, if a dealer deals one additional card, it is returned to the deck and used as the burncard. |

Everyone plays Holdem except for the guy who was dealt 3 cards. He plays Crazy Pineapple.
No, seriously, it's a misdeal. |

No, seriously, it's a misdeal. [/ QUOTE ] No, seriously, it's not a misdeal. At least not in most places. Here's how it works in my room, YMMV: If there's been no action and the player hasn't looked, the floor picks one that then becomes the burn. If there's been no action and the player has looked, sometimes it's a dead hand and sometimes the floor picks one and exposes it and it becomes the burn. If there's been action, the floor picks one for the burn and kills the hand. Keep in mind I may be wrong on the second two, or it may vary by floorperson, but I know it's never a misdeal. (...unless more than one person has the improper number) |
