Looking to get my first motorcycle

Couldn't find a automobile section.. so decided to post it here. I'm thinking about getting a sportbike in the next 6 months but I have no clue what I want, and I'm pretty new in this market. I've been looking into a Suzuki GS500F as my first bike, it's a 487cc twin cyclinder bike. Is this too fast/too much for a first bike? Should I get a cheaper used bike? I spend most of my time around philly/nyc, so would it be impractical?

Are there even any people who even know about bikes on this forum.

Definitely wrong forum I would guess. That bike isn't terribly big for a beginner, but I would still look around for a Ninja 250 or something dirt cheap (you can usually get one for $1000) because you're going to drop it somewhere stupid
