Is this an angle shoot?
1/2 NL at the MGM Grand:
Guy who was clearly new to the game limps in early position, action folds to me. I have been playing a lot of hands and raise to $12 on the button with A-7 os. SB calls, BB folds, limper calls. Flop comes J-8-3 rainbow. Two checks and I bet $30, SB folds, limper thinks and calls. Turn Q, check, check, river is a 2. Limper reaches for his stack and then takes his hand away without grabbing any chips. He is thinking for a while and I'm putting him on something like A-8. I want him to check so I can make a decent bet that I think he will fold to, so I ask him if he has a pair of 8s. He shakes his head looking very perplexed, so I tell him, tell me what you have and I'll help you out. He tells me I was close, so I say, "pocket 9s? pocket 9s no good" To which he immediately mucks. I didn't show, accepted the pot and tipped the dealer $1. Obviously I didn't think he would open muck, I was only trying to induce a check. What do you think? |

Did he check before you told him pocket 9's no good?

No, he was still deciding what to do. I was trying to induce a check.

Re: Is this an angle shoot?
good play, not an angle...
However, on a personal note, I always feel bad about taking advantage of newbies... I rather beat them straight up... especially if I'm making weak raises on the button with weak aces |

Re: Is this an angle shoot?
This is hilarious. Im a very quiet "keep to myself" kind of guy in general, but every now and then I do things like this while playing live. I recently posted a hand where I talked alot during the hand and I was told by about 12 guys to shut the hell up at the table.
This hand shows why it can be a great play at times. |

I'll leave the "weak" comment alone |

[/ QUOTE ] That would only work if I only talked when i was bluffing which would be pretty stupid. If you know what you are doing you can talk people into doing alot of things they wouldnt normally do or want to do. If you arent good at it, then yeah, you should probably just shut up and play. |
