I had Krantz as a coach for like a week or two and even though we only chatted several times and he only sweat me once...I would say I learned more about playing 6 max in that short amount of time than I did reading posts/watching other peoples videos etc on the forum. I still suck at 6 max though lol.

Only play saturdays and sundays so decided to switch to MTTs for now...but the 3bet coaches seem like they are def worth the scratch and I would personally recommend them for coaching.

May have to start back up with the 6max if I end up making my move back to AZ...

Just found this thread and found it intriguing.

I feel I am a very competent player in a live setting. Most of my play has been logged live at the 3/5 NL level. Starting to dabble into online poker more (now that I don't live 15 min. from a casino) has made me think about getting a coach. The reasons I would want one are...

1)to understand the nuances of multi-tabling effectively.
2)learning the ins and outs of timing tells and bets sizes with online play.
3)getting a full breakdown of poker stats via poker HUD/tracker etc...and applying them to my game.
4)improving my knowledge and understanding of the game.
5)probably a bunchof other crap I can't think of right now

I have been a fairly active poster in the MSNL forum for about a year and a half. Do any coaches think I need a coach and/or feel I have enough grasp of the game to be coached?

Coaches,

Here's a tip for you. If you want to look like a superstar coach, the real key is to find really talented players to help out. The roster of guys I have helped learn poker is full of guys who are now cash and tourney superstars. That is partly due to me being very good and offering some very good advice. But a lot also has to do with the fact that the guys I talk poker with and help out with their games are guys who I consider very smart, but often just inexperienced about a certain game. All of them would have become excellent players on their own, I just helped them get there a little faster. Anyone starting a coaching business should focus on that and soon they'll have more business than they can handle based on the stellar results of their students.

The past year has led me to believe that this is most important strategy for building any professional service or consulting business.

This is basically 3-bet, btw. Every single students I've ever coached (and it's been dozens) is now making more money than I am playing poker, pretty much. Some a LOT more.

I have also come to realize that a not very imaginative ABC type style is all that is necessary to beat anything lower than 400 NL with halfway decent table selection

Well I am not quite there yet but one day I hope to realize that as well!!!

This is a question for all coaches, how many sessions does the average student take. And how many do you think is optimal?

I know it varies depending on how fast students learn and what they knew before hand. So take an average 1/2NL 6max 2+2er.

hey j,

i was just reading your post in El D's forum about coaching, and it made me really want to start. I'm probably gonna give some of my friends freebies to practice (i've done this a bunch casually obv but want to try it in a more structured way), but eventually may want to join up with you guys at 3-bet. How much do you take off the top of the rates? Or generally how does it work? I was thinking of just doing it on my own but I think it might be easier to go through you guys, plus would be kinda cool to work with you guys IMO.

So my hourly over the last 200k hands is like $830/hr, what do you think would be an appropriate rate considering I'd be kinda new? I was thinking 200/hr at first, then eventually 300 or so. Also my aim is 'anything632', feel free to hit me up there if you'd rather do that then pm.

oh yeah and what happened to you that one night after plum? I remember emil showing me a txt that said you had 'gone to neverneverland' or some weird place like that lol.

i'm also curious about the answers to these questions. i've taught and staked longtime friends for a cut of the winnings, with bad results so I've pretty much given up.
