If the agreement is "we share 10% of our profit with each other" he did just fine. That's what he's doing. And that's the only agreement I would ever go with--if I win $400 in a $340 tourney for going out on the bubble at the same time as another player, I ain't giving you $40 and keeping $20 for myself; you're getting $6. And if someone else pays my way in to the tourney, the agreement with that guy holds, and again, you'll get 10% of my profit. And if I have a 10% agreement with 3 other players, I'm obviously not giving 4 people $40 each and losing money on this.

So I see nothing wrong with this, other than it sounds like you haven't been doing 10% of profit in the past...sounds more like you've been doing 10% of the gross take.

What if he'd sold all of himself? Then I guess you'd get $0 regardless of where he finished?

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes.

Say I'm sitting with $200 wasting time playing 4/8 at Bellagio when someone says "you're so good, I'll buy you into the $1000 tourney for 50% of whatever you money". If I have a 10% arrangement with 5 other people, would y'all prefer I refused saying "sorry, I owe 50% to others so I'll make 0 by doing that" or would y'all prefer I say "great, thanks" and then share 10% of my profit with the 5 of you?

[/ QUOTE ]

srsly? i would want you to keep your $ b/c trading 10% of me for 5% of you would be garbage

Agreement #1

Player A and Player B swap 10% of their tournament winnings (its important for both players to understand if this is profit or gross but for OP's question it doesnt matter).

Agreement #2

Player B makes a 50/50 deal with player C. Assuming there is no discussion of agreement #1 player C makes the fair assumption that he gets 50% of the tournament action, not 50% of player B's action after all other agreements.

Player A = 90%(himself) + 10% player B -----100%
Player B = 40%(himself) 10% player A---------50%
Player C = 50% of player B -----------------50%

Note that this adds up to 200% which is good because 2 people are playing in this tournament.

Player B wins 25K

Player A - 2,500
Player B - 10,000
Player C - 12,500
Total - 25,000

Bav, I think you aren't seeing the ituation.

The OP's deal isn't we will split 10% on all our tournament wins. It was today we are playing a tournament lets swap ot 10% of this tournament. Now the player says oops I forgot i already gave away 50% of me so in fact you were putting up 10% of your win in this tournament against 4%of my win in this tournament.

[/ QUOTE ]
Gotcha. Yes, I agree with OP now. Sorry.

I know folks who have standing arrangements to just always share 10% of their tourney profits with each other, whenever and whatever they play. It's not a tit-for-tat, one-time, for this tourney we're doing this arrangement, it's just a standing "if you cash, I get 10% of the profit" deal that goes on for months/years.

Yeah, if we do a one time "I give you 10% and you give me 10% of this tourney" arrangement, then no, it's grossly unfair for you to suddenly announce "I was actually only offering 5%". And yes, if you oversell yourself, you're SOL. I once suggested to someone we take 20% of each other and he said "ok" and then his friend next to him says "uhhh...Bob, you don't have 20% of you left".

I once worked in a casino where they had drawings for cash. I saw a player win one that paid out more than he won because he had traded with so many people. At least he was honest and actually put his name on his tickets

He doesn't need to stiff the other guy at all. The guy who gave him the ticket gets 50%, he gives you 10%, and he keeps the remaining 40%. Those are the deals he made and anything else is shenanigans.

Thanks Guys, I asked him to honor the deal we had, and to go back to the person that had 50% of him if he was going to short anybody, it should be him and the that person. The day after the win is not the time to change terms. If he does he does, on the up side, this player has 2 big scores in less than a week that I was 10% of. And I had a nice $40k FT that he also made $11k in same tourney not too long ago, we both have been running Hot lately, so I guess this is a good problem to have, $1400 isnt going to change my life. But its still the principle of the deal/ I am going to be more specific in any deals from now on, if I do anymore. I'll see him today to collect, I hope he chooses to do the right thing and whats fair, if not, was a cheap lesson as far as I'm concerned. Better to know this now than when he wins something like the wsop m.e. and I have a piece of him. GL everyone.
