roflroflrofl this is the worst signing ever. jesus [censored] christ. torrealba is almost certainly worse than castro. this is just a sign that when it comes to certain things, omar has no [censored] clue. torrealba will be a hole in the lineup, an automatic out. i mean i get there werent many options out there...but ugh.

well, according to his pecota card torrealba is worth just a little less than what the mets signed him for. the problem of course isn't the signing, it's the fact that he'll actually get most of the ABs with his 700 ops.

OH GOD...OH GOD NO!!

From MetsBlog..

[i]…there is increased buzz around new york if late suggesting the Mets may have more interest in David Eckstein than has been reported…in fact, from what i can gather, there may be a little blue-and-orange wining and dining in his future, if it hasn’t happened already…

…for what it’s worth, i have heard from different people that eckstein had recently been seen around the tri-state with the wilpons, doing their standard meet-new york, live-in-ct tour…

…as i have written before, my sense all along has been that if the Mets are unable to sign free-agent Luis Castillo, they’ll set their aim on eckstein, who is rumored to be seeking a lesser deal than castillo, who could drag out negotiations longer than the Mets are willing to wait…remember, omar hates to wait, so the sooner he can wrap up his infield the better…in fact, my hunch is that second base will be taken care of before the winter meetings, where he’d rather spend all of his time focused on pitching…[/]

According to Metsblog:

"In 117 games for St. Louis this past season, Eckstein hit .309, with a .356 OBP, while putting the ball in play roughly 85 percent of his plate appearances."

So why does he get so much hate here? He's probably quite solid defensively, at second, and seems like the prototypical #2 hitter. And let's face it, this team needs hard-nosed players.

I'm not saying he's my first choice. I'd rather have Castillo or even let Gotay play. But the hate that Eckstein gets at this forum seems excessive.

Aren't Eckstein and Castillo pretty much the same player?

My impression is that they're close, but that a healthy Castillo is superior defensively and might steal more bases. I don't know the actual numbers, though.
