Hey Marchron, what kind of games/limits are expected at this new Four Winds? You must be pretty excited. Bobby?

I have no idea what they'll be spreading, but I'm stoked. There's half a dozen casinos in the Chicago/NW Indiana corridor, and they all either don't have poker or their room sucks. Except for one: Majestic Star II, formerly Trump.

It would be impossible for Four Winds not to be better than its next door neighbor Blue Chip, and just the sheer size of it (it's an Indian casino, not a boat) means it will probably outdo MSII/Trump.

Default it\'s central texas; what could possibly go wrong?

I went to a wedding in Austin this weekend. A few things:

- The Clay Pit at 16th and Guadalupe has excellent Indian food. The veggie samosas were particularly good.

- I was rolling through town on my way to the rehearsal dinner (in the Mercury Grand Marquis to which i had been upgraded for free -- balla!). I had stopped on some station playing some awesome 90s R&B (possibly C+C Music Factory).

The track ended ("rock and roll to please your soul (Yeah!)") and the next track began with a very familiar-sounding synth line. I soon found i knew the words: "Never gonna give you up / never gonna let you down / never gonna run around and desert you..."

And soon i realized: I had just been rickrolled by the goddamn radio.

- Let's say, hypothetically, that as soon as i landed in Vegas, i stopped by home just long enough to drop off my backpack, smoke a bowl, and then drove to Sam's Town to play 4/8. Does that make me a degenerate?

Fun time I'm having this month...

And that's only 10/20

Last hand I played I counted 20 outs on the turn, but nope wouldn't come thru unlike the [censored] fishies gutshots & backdoor flushes.

Seriously people (and not just unterfish) if you've got something worthwhile to say in long format then just post the darn thing. I don't have anything against Pooh-bah and other milestone-related dissertations; if that's the motivation a poster needs to make it happen then great - but why wait for some silly number to come up on a counter as primary causation to contribute to the forum?

*sigh*
Probably gonna regret this.

Unterfish just a bit of advice. Your posts are very childish and immature in nature, they sound like a 12 year old who forgot their meds and is in need mommy and daddy's attention wrote them. Instead of getting all defensive and crying that no one likes you, do something about it. Start posting with some reasonable maturity and thought out responses. You may actually benefit from it. If you can't take that advice or the more blunt advice that others have given you, then there is no hope for you. You are just wasting your own and others time.

i'd call the phone number on the form/letter/mailing and politely request that they fax you a written description of acceptable documentation that they want to see.

then, receive the fax and go from there.

Word. Each state is different. Some states don't follow the Fed guidelines, and completely disallow gambling losses, but tax you for gambling wins. Depending on how you define a "session" that means you could be a net losing player and still owe mega taxes...say, if you have winning sessions totalling $150K and losing sessions totalling $175k. But, as I understand it from my accountant, there's also no set definition for "session"...some people go by day, some go by table, some go by week.

Definitely have documentation as to what they're looking for before you submit ANYTHING, because they may not allow you to revise it once you've submitted it, too.

[/ QUOTE ]

States will vary, but to clarify federal rules only a 'professional gambler', filling out a schedule C, can fully deduct gambling losses. For everyone else, gambling losses are deductible only as an itemized deduction, and only to the extent they are greater than 2% of your AGI (adjusted gross income). So you could have 100k of AGI from regular job, interest, dividends, cap gains, etc, and 100k of gambling wins, and 100k of gambling losses, and only get to deduct 98k of your gambling losses, netting you 2k of gambling income even though you broke even. As noted, the open question is what defines a 'session'. One trip to a casino is a reasonable position, not clear if one log-in online 4-tabling is four sessions or one. If I'm the IRS I would try to argue each hand is a 'session' to maximize IRS revenue. There is a lot of info in the legislation forum, but if you have material poker winnings you really should get professional tax preparation help.

NB: While I am a CPA with Masters in Taxation, I have not practiced for about 10 years, I am now an IT project director. But I am quite sure my understanding of federal rules is current.
