UPDATE:

I spoke with my coworker. This kid was NOT fired, although his first day back to work was quite awkward and embarassing.

Furthermore, he is considering suing his boss, as well as the guy who found (and later distributed) the picture on facebook. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to invasion of privacy laws, but he might have a case here.
