A. Casinos are noisy places. People speak with accents and with different degrees of diction. Statements are misheard or misinterpreted. Maybe the other guy lied about what he said, maybe the OP misheard, and dealers often make assumptions instead of paying attention. You seem to be 100% convinced what the guy said, and you weren't even there.

B. Waiting 2 seconds would prevent a lot of mistakes and angles. Something about an ounce of prevention.
