Default getting comps in vegas

(I know this has probaly been asked before, I tried the search and came up empty..guess i just suck...there was also nothing the the bm newbie guide about this..)

My wife and I will be taking our first trip to Vegas in Sept. We are both low limit players. Our plan is to play as much poker as we can and in as many room as we can, if we are running good maybe a tourney. My question is, how do we get comps for food or drink at the poker rooms?
Would we need to sign up for a "players card" at every casino we go to?
After how many hours would 2 people need to play to get a couple food comps?
I'm not trying to be a cheap skate here, but if they have comps i don't see why we shouldn't try to take advantage of them....

Thanks in advance, we are very excited for this trip..can't get here fast enough.....

Free drinks: order from the waitress (be sure to give at least $1 per drink ordered once it is brought).

Free food: It depends. Most rooms give $1 per hour, some give more (Venetian gives $2-$3), and some give nothing. You need to swipe in and swipe out with your card when you enter and leave to accumulate your comps.

Unlike table games, random free food is not just given away at random. Poker, generally, you have to earn comps from playing a few hours. Bellagio and Mirage will give $15 food vouchers good at certain places if you ask nicely (and played a significant time), and if they feel like it (it is not guaranteed). The hourly comps are guaranteed, so long as you have a card, in the rooms that offer it.

AFAIK Bellagio doesn't have a card anymore for the poker room... someone correct me if I'm wrong. I asked about it last weekend, and they said its too hard to keep track of. They said just ask the floor for free buffet coupons.

Are they just messing with me?

I didn't think Bellagio ever used the players card (hell, they don't even have electronic lists).
Playing at Bellagio, you're lucky to get free drinks let alone anything else. They are not the place for comps.

The one comp they do give is good for the snack bar only, not anything else, AFAIK.

The easiest poker food comps in Vegas are:

Binions - you get a $7 food comp for the coffee shop or one of the snack bars. I think you are supposed to play for 4 hours, but I have found that they will give the comp out any time you ask. Frankly, I would not abuse it. I would ask for it at the begining of the session and then give them a few hours of play at least.

Venetian - Begining in Sept they will be giving $3 an hour. You need to get their card. Noodles Asia nearby is about $17 a person including food, tax and a non alcohol drink. Grand Lux Cafe should run $20-30 a person including drink and tax. So calculate your play based on how much you want to spend.

Just about everywhere else gives $1 an hour.

No they definitely give away buffet vouchers. You need to speak to the shift manager that's by the podium near the elevated tables.

Poker players are at the bottom of the comped food chain. Slot players get a lot more respect, since they give a lot more money to the house on average.

Playing in as many rooms as you can is also very bad as far as comps go. The more time you put in one room, the more likely the floor people are to recognize you, and the more likely you are to get comped.

Play where and when you want to, have a good time, and buy your own food where and when you want to.

I stayed at Mandalay Bay for a week last Dec, anyhow I played mostly 4/8 hold'em for about 2 hours a day, and I recived a food comp every day I played. I had to ask the floor manager though, and he wanted me to be discreet about it. The voucher was about worth $10.

Monte Carlo gives $6 coupons for playing about 4 hours. Let them know when you get there, and they might write it down if they are being picky.

The $6 comp is stackable, doesn't expire, and good for the cafe.

Also, Sam's Town gives out $4 coupons, also stackable, and expire in about a month after issuance. If you ask nicely (and tip) you can get more then one at once. Just ask for it when cashing out.
