I often replace the standard card with a stronger/quieter one. You'll get a cooler card at a lower noise level for $30. (But don't let the card overheat if this fan does die.)

Pressing on the top is a great idea. I was going to suggest the flat-out stopping. I've never broken a fan, and I've accidently stopped plenty. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I've stopped quite a few too without any problems but I thought I would go for a bit more conservative advice. Tapping or gently raking the pen across the blades usually will do the trick and seems to freak people out less. When I was diagnosing a friend's fan problem he had a pretty horrified look on as face when I jammed a pen into his video card fan. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
