I but I have heard that MANY pros play on this level just to make a living.

[/ QUOTE ]

You heard wrong. A pro with a 8 PTBB/100 who four tables averaging 250 hands per hour and plays 60 hours a week will make $62k a year if he never takes a vacation. I think the 'pros' are playing at much higher stakes.

If you are beating NL $50 then NL $100 will not give you any problems.

[/ QUOTE ]

8/100*$2*250*60*52=$124k

Were you using 8BB or 8PTBB? 60 hours a week of 4-tabling and I would HATE poker.

[/ QUOTE ]

You got it right. I was calcing it for NL $50

I agree that 60 hours a week of NL $100 would suck.

I kind of agree with this. Maybe I was just running poorly, but I thought NL50 was a bit rockish. I cant really think of any reason why this would be so, but thats the general impression I came away from the 50s with.

Eh, I haven't played enough hands at 100NL to give an educated opinion. I've only played about 5k tracked hands (probobly a bit more on the side from other sites, etc).

So far, it has been easier. The bet amounts are a bit higher (ie. $2 pf to $4) and maybe a bit intimidating at first, but regarding quality of play at 100nl, it is no higher than 50nl.

But then again, I haven't spent much time at 50nl either and have just been looking to move up so...

i was gonna gambool with only 3 buyins at 100, but i decided it was better just to grind out the 25s again.

i'll be back at the 100s with 10-15 buys sometime soon.. not playing nearly as much as i was before.

The biggest challenges for me were
1) Getting used to the larger amounts of money (raises, bets, losing sessions, etc.). For example, when I started playing 100NL a $100 losing session bothered me. But at 50NL, dropping a buy-in was no big deal.
2) Table selection. Watch out for rock gardens.

Hmmmm....

I'm finding the $25's harder than $50's for this kind of reason.

Add in the fact that I get outdrawn by hands I just don't expect to be there often and I think my winrate(lossrate) is suffering a result.

At the risk of sounding like "I'm moving up to $100 NL so that players respect my raises..." - which is a bad thing to think.

I plan on moving up to $100NL the second my bankroll says that I can (15 buyins) - this isn't happening anytime soon - and I need to play more ABC and a lot less FPS to even make it that far.

Tho in the not too distant future I will be able to deposit enough to roll me for the $100's in any case.

This week I have ironed out a lot of my frustrations away from the tables - taken a couple more days off and looked hard (again) at my play.

I am finding 25's at present to be very rocky and my natural game is much more suited facing looser calling station people rather than Loose preflop - tight otherwise players who don't call my flop/turn bets. Meaning I am winning a good amount of small pots - when they all fold on the flop/turn- and losing a few big pots when they play back at me and either have me beat all the way - or outdraw me on the river. I win the odd bigger pot when my hands do hold up - but overall I am losing a little

I have also been playing like a superdonk recently playing my natural style - usually as I am overtired and can't/don't want to think straight and make adjustments - factor in a few lost stacks due to over playing bad one pair hands and it's no great surprise I am bleeding money.

I am getting nailed with hitnrun artists - who out luckbox me with their short stacks - then leave the table immediately after doubling through just after I have got a good read on how they play which is infuriating

Anyway - I am moving up out of here as soon as I am able - to $100's - where I shall stay for a good amount of time until I am confident I am a solid winning player again - and have the bankroll to move further.

Is this likely a good idea? - or am I talking myself into the mindset of "I should move up so players respect my raises" and I should stay put till I can crush the small stakes games.. (??)

With pros I of course did not mean the pros that are making the BIG money. With "pros" I meant people with alot of experience/skill that just stayed at NL 100$ and doesn't bother to move up. And is just playing to make a stable extra income.

[/ QUOTE ]

You mean like me I doubt there are many and if you have PT they should be easy enough to spot.

Just open up a table and start playing. It really is only the $50's with double the stacks. There isn't anything fancy or high level going on. Quit worrying, if you have the bankroll, just give it a shot. If you drop a few buy-ins right off the bat then move back down to the $50's.

[/ QUOTE ]

in fact, i find 100NL a little more straightforward.

the range of hands that donkeys call raises with preflop is a little smaller so you there's a little less guesswork as to whether they hit. i hate blindly sticking my stack in with an overpair like you almost have to do at the lower limits because of how f'ing stupidly people play top pair/inside straight draws/etc. i feel like at the lower limits it's less poker and more how far can i swing my dick with top pair garbage kicker.

i enjoy the analysis and, if you do too, you'll be happier moving up.

if you drop a few buyins, rather than moving down, look at your play style first. you're probably playing scared and not taking the shots that you would have at the lower level because the doubled bets/raises intimidate you. the play is similar enough that this could easily be the cause.

If you are "good" at 50NL the only problem I'd imagine you'd have at 100NL would be mental ones.

I'm currently in the process of moving up now, as a I type this, following one of my fish pals around.

I'll let you know if I find any notable diffrences.
