WSOP Main Event - Your thoughts on the format?

If you had the chance to make one change in the Main Event format, what would it be? Interesting question. Be interested in hearing.

My impression as a SPECTATOR, having watched the entire final table PPV... personally, I thought there were way too many chips on the table. Once we got to the final table, even the shorter stacks, such as Yang had over 30 big blinds - I think thats too much. I think what makes a final table truly a final table is at least SOME pressure on the small stacks. I know that more chips means more play, but having twice as many chips on the felt per person as in previous years was overkill in my opinion. Maybe they could have had some longer levels earlier in the tourney to allow for more play and shorten them or something. But they were playing 15 hands per hour at the FT and you really can't have short stacks be in a position where they don't have to play a hand for 10 hours. I didn't like the "flow". Your thoughts?

The average M was a little bit over 20. I don't think that is too much for an event such as the ME.

They doubled the starting stack to 200k AND doubled the starting blind levels. However, the 2007 blinds climbed a bit faster, for example:

I have never thought more chips were a bad thing in any tournament poker scenario.

More play = better tournament

You want the main event to be a shootout? Well, that is a bold suggestion.

long levels and small blind increments from level to level is precisely the reason the final table had big stacks. you'd have to do the opposite to get shorter stacks at the final table.

if they want the "main Event" to be relevant, the best move would be make it some sort of points system based on the other 43 events(guessign the number) and then only those who qualify can buy in. I like the idea that any Joe Schmo can buy in for 10k and "have a shot" but in the past few years i've always been more interested in the TOC because you had to earn your spot. Most reports I heard this year, everyone knew the 50k horse event was the true "championship caliber" event because of the high buy in removing the amateur aspect
