Default I think I love this one

10-20 kill game, game is fairly loose aggro pre, fairly honest post. Button in this hand has been 3 betting me light all night. He plays decent, fairly str8 forward. Kill is my buddy who's visiting town and amazed by the action, running bad but best player at the table. I"m the only one who knows this.

Kill is posted in MP+3. Remarkably, folded to the kill who checks. This means he has nothing at all. I raise Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] in the CO, button 3 bets, BB calls, killer calls, I call.

4 to the flop for 12.5 sbs. 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Checked around.

Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] checked to me and I bet. Button calls, BB folds, Killer thinks and thinks and calls.

My plan for the river is to c/r the A or K of [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], check-call a pair, bet non ace or king rivers.

Likey?

I think button will call with ace high on the river if it completely bricks. That being said, a non spade J, Q or 9 would look like a brick to him and make him call with ace high. The As or Ks would be pretty good check raise cards, and as I said above, I think you are getting called with ace high if some blank hits the river so just give up if you completely miss.

You didn't say what you would do with any other spade.

Are you fairly confident you'll get action if the A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] or K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] hits?

I don't think that your buddy is going to lay down his poket pair for one more bet on a safe baord. I throw bluffing out the window.

I'd bet any improvement to your hand and check unimproved. Your buddy looks like he's ready to call down his weak hand.

A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] check-raise will probably work, K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I'd be more likely to bet. Button is more likely to have AQ than AK when the K hits the river.

If an ace hits is he less likely to have one?

I'm not sure, I'm going to have to rely on your read for that. Is he equally likely to 3-bet you preflop without an A as he is with one? If so, then statistically, yes. But I'm assuming he's more likley to 3-bet you preflop with an Ax type hand based on your description.

But if an A hits, I think most opponents are more likely to try to bluff that card when you check AND also less likely to pay off with KQ/KJ against you as a preflop raiser. So as a result, your check-raise is more likely to work there than a K.

If my buddy had a pair he'd have raised his kill opening the pot pre-flop. I"m not 100% sure, but pretty damn certain. He'd earlier opened his kill from an earlier position with 86o. As an aside, I"m the guy who 3 bet him with 63s

Given that the button checked the flop and only called my turn bet, I think I need to bluff the river.

Long time since i've been around here...i've missed it

I'm interested in a couple aspects of this hand.

1. what on earth is the killer calling the turn bet with? Is his hesitation sincere, or is it an act? If its realy what could be such a difficult decision? He did call 2 bets cold preflop right, and you did say he was the best at the table. you also said his PF check meant he had nothing, but doesn't he muck 'nothing' preflop to two bets? He's not some gambling yahoo, he's the best in the game, he finds a fold with garbage, right? That being said there's a decent chance that turn helped him. I'd expect him to bet a T, but he might have an 8. he might have 57s.

2. the button 3bet, which you said he'd do light and has been doing all session. How's he play if he whiffs the flop? It sounds like you're putting him on exactly AK...and i would think most players who will iso 3bet an apparent LAG preflop, would bet AK high on that board into an apparently weak field. The buttons had is very confusing, especially when he just calls the turn...i'm not a monster under the bed sorta guy, but i'd be worried he's got a HUGE hand.

anyways, just some thoughts. interested to hear what you all think, i've been out of the game for awhile, just getting back into it, and im sure i'm rusty.
