Re: Ace baby in the blinds vs a maniac..... how to play?
[ QUOTE ]
How deep are we? How many hands do we have to determine his PT stats? How is the rest of the table responding to him (e.g., are they playing back at him or is it essentially one player shoving chips around while everyone else waits for their Aces to call him?). What are the stakes? [/ QUOTE ] Lets say 25NL, stats are over 100 hands we are 100BB deep and Maniac covers. |

[ QUOTE ] A) standard raise, fold to a 3-bet, c-bet most flops B) call [/ QUOTE ] Next question in response to your plan A) You raise and c-bet a K 4 2r flop and are called. Do you c/f a blank turn? Do you fold to a flop raise? [/ QUOTE ] I would not second-barrel a maniac, c/f turn [ QUOTE ] B) You call the 4BB and then whiff the flop. Do you fold to his c-bet? with no pair no draw A high? [/ QUOTE ] I definitely float a maniac on a flop with high cards in position. Fold to a turn bet unimproved |

Re: Ace baby in the blinds vs a maniac..... how to play?
Ok...I'm at work, so gimme' a bit to type up my thoughts.
I think that we have a general line that we can follow in each case here, but we also need to know where the potential pitfalls lie so we don't dig a hole for ourselves...I will expand more on my post... |

Re: Ace baby in the blinds vs a maniac..... how to play?
I join the fold both party, this guy is in half the hands that are played. That means he his in half my monster hands. I'll wait for a better spot.
I think this adds a lot to variance and a little to win rate. |

I definitely float a maniac on a flop with high cards in position. Fold to a turn bet unimproved [/ QUOTE ] I do this too, and I believe its a leak. Maniac will value bet bottom pair accidentally trying to... .well be a maniac. I think taking A-high stands against this type is just not worth it. Plus I chicken out when they pot bet the river, and it seems everytime I call they have bottom pair! |

Re: Ace baby in the blinds vs a maniac..... how to play?
I like my A5o a whole lot more in the BB, but I might fold it in the SB. I like to be able to read him a little bit at least.

Re: Ace baby in the blinds vs a maniac..... how to play?
why are we messing around with offsuit aces? they'll NEVER flop a great hand, and maniacs live off opponents playing back with mediocre hands. horrible, terrible RIO setup. I fold both pre.
At NL25, we want this guy to stack off when we have the nuts. You're playing for blind money. MAYBE justified as metagame, so he doesn't think we're nutpeddling, but do that with suited connectors and 1-gappers, suited aces, small pairs, hands that can flop big once in a while. I'd prefer an offsuit connector to an offsuit ace to dork around with. |

gedanken is right
easy fold for both hands against a maniac. Play your good hands only against him b/c he'll pay you off. |

Re: Ace baby in the blinds vs a maniac..... how to play?
Even if A5o is better than his range , i dont like this kind of hand against a maniac if u dont have much experience in those situations.Play big hands A10s+ any pocket pairs and suited connectors as well.

easy fold for both hands against a maniac. Play your good hands only against him b/c he'll pay you off. [/ QUOTE ] 50/30/5, unless he's completely shutting down postflop almost all of the time, is going to pay you off with just about everything. That's some serious aggression for somebody seeing that many flops. In such a case, especially if the guy has a stack that's at all appreciable, I'm usually worried that somebody else is going to get to him first, and so waiting for an airtight hand essentially means giving up on a profitable situation. If he's firing that often after the flop, I don't think the reverse implied odds of hitting an A are necessarily that bad. |
