I had a great time today worrying some coworkers who were going about parking too far away, just be careful, etc etc. By the end of the day the "see you tomorrow...i hope!" jokes were said with just a tinge of "but no, really"

Silverchair are still huge in Australia, and they've been kept in focus on Australian radio because Daniel Johns has had a few side projects which were fairly popular.

Also I think the first album was good never really listened to the others though you couldn't help but hear them played all the time on the radio.

I saw them at the start of the year at a large music festival - very dissapointing, but I am a much bigger fan of their earlier stuff. Of course they are too pretentious now to lower themselves to playing some crowd-pleasing old favourites so most of the festival crowd went home feeling like they didnt get their moneys worth. Their new stuff just leaves me cold, and evidently I am not alone.

Awesome. I used to love Silverchair, last I had heard they were pretty much done and I hadn't heard anything about this album coming out.

Now to go find it.

As with basically all Australians who achieve any sort of international recognition, silverchair are portrayed as creative geniuses in the AU media - especially Daniel Johns who has been through public bouts of anorexia, agoraphobia, etc. Nowadays he is basically considered a slightly insane but charming ruffian with a Kurt Cobain past who maybe takes himself too seriously but is a pretty talented and decent dude. Really though, aside from mainstream media most silverchair fans in AU nowadays are fat chicks and 30-40 year old men, people who were into Frogstomp all those years ago are long gone.

Random Daniel Johns story - One night I was in Sydney on a holiday and was having dinner/drinking in a pretty trendy vegan restaraunt, I was pretty trashed at the time when in walks Daniel with Natalie Imbruglia... I have never been a fan but he is one of the biggest stars in AU so I thought it was amusing, so I said a little too loudly to the people I was with "OMG check out who just walked in wtf!", Daniel overheard and turned to his gf wincing and shaking his head like "[censored] I KNEW WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME!!".

She comforted him and led him over to a table in the corner, I really felt like going up and saying btw man, I'm not even a fan and no-one really cares, sry!
