Default Poker winnings more \"satisfying\" than income earned from other sources

Hey guys,

For the past three years I have been playing poker. I would consider myself an "average" player, capable of beating NL 200 and 5-10 limit over large samples.

Three years ago I started a construction company which has grown over 300% so far this year. I am making anywhere from 4000 to 10000 dollars a week.

However, even with my new income, I still find myself thinking about playing poker quite often, even though the likelihood of ever earning my current income level is quite low.

Every hour spent playing poker is one less hour spent on my business, so in essence it is costing me money, even when I am winning.

Yet I still read 2+2 an hour or so a day and fantasize about trips to Vegas and AC.

Is this normal?

Sigma

in the movie "color of money" paul newman states that money won is sweeter than money earned.

on the surface i agree with this statement but in order to win money, one must study, learn and pratice. so even money won was earned.

why not employ someone so you can persue your dreams?

^^ . Exactly what matt posts i was debating to make a thread of.
" Are we earning or winning money via playing poker.!

I think your problem is only that your job is no fun to you, but poker is.

Poker is my primary source of income. I'm also a musician and much prefer to be gigging than grinding. Even though the $/hr I get from music is laughable compared to what I make from grinding, I gig every chance I get and will continue to do so.

If you reduce all of your activities to terms of $/hr I think you'll eventually hate your life. Money is a tool, nothing more, and it sounds like you have plenty. Enjoy your life.

I haven't had a job since 1979. A few years ago I started a couple of businesses after reflecting that I had an easy life and hadn't contributed to society, and was feeling a bit guilty about it. I would say, don't give up something productive and profitable to pursue something that may only fulfill your needs in the short term.

I have a regular job where I get my income. I also have poker and playing drums in a band as part of my life. Both of those latter activities do involve some income but that is not the point of them. They are my passions and of course when the job has its lulls I find myself looking forward to my next jam or the next MTT. Nothing wrong with that (I hope ).

Oh and also, now when I have a vacation coming my first question is where is the nearest casino.
