I like Schiano, but he isn't much of a "Michigan Man", so I'm surprised to see him on the short list.

[/ QUOTE ]

Schiano would be better than Miles IMO so I am shocked at this.

Being a "Michigan Man" is very, very important in Ann Arbor... more important than credentials really.

obviously...they hired Gary Moeller as head coach FFS

ironically, Bo was a tO$U man

Bo was hired before it was the rivalry it was today.

The great ones redefine themselves by creating new traditions.

Overall:

I like Miles but don't LOVE him. While he is certainly suboptimal in his in game decision making, his batshit insanity makes up for this (he is so aggressive he sometimes makes the correct decision for the wrong reason -- and his apparent randomness in his decisions can simulate game theoretic optimality). However, he has kept the LSU program at a very high level, and it's hard to ask more of a coach than that.

I was won over by Miles after the 2005 season. Louisiana got hit with two hurricanes that year, and it SEVERLY disrupted the team.

I am not jumping on the "Miles sucks" bandwagon. When all factors are considered, he is considerably better than most college coaches IMO.

I still think it's 98% he's staying at LSU, but that press conference was a little ambiguous. If you've seen the video (turn on ESPN News), then picture Miles being very pissed as he says this:

Miles: "There was misinformation on ESPN and I think it's imperative that I straighten it out. I'm the head coach at LSU, I will be the head coach at LSU, I have no interest in talking to anyone else. I have a championship game to play and I'm excited about the opportunity of my damn strong football team to play in it. And that's really all I'd like to say. It's unfortunate I had to address my team with this information this morning. With that being done, I think we'll be ready to play. There will be no questions for me; I represent me in this issue, please ask me after. I'm busy. Thank you very much, and have a great day."

No mention of extension. Chancellor wouldn't take questions.

It was still pretty damn important when he went there.

And how did Miles screw over Michigan?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if it's fair to say he "screwed" over Michigan, but he's dropped hints he loves Michigan and it was his dream job, etc. If he really intended on staying at LSU, then he "screwed" over Michigan by using us as leverage for his big money extension. At least that's what the narrative is.

Skip Bertman (LSU's AD) is claiming that Miles has agreed to a contract extension according to ABC.

The press conference was super-weird. He didn't say "I signed an extension," he said "I don't want another job." Big difference.

This guy loves Michigan and the job will not open up again in his coaching lifetime. I'm not 100% convinced he's staying.
