Micah Owings
This guy is awesome.
7 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 7 K for the W on the mound and 4-5, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI at the plate. This is the best game I've seen anyone have in a long time. Blurb from Tulane University Website about the 2005 season: "Season Highlights (entering CWS): Played in 61 games as a position player - including 36 starts at first base, 19 as the designated hitter and five in left field - and also started 18 games on the mound...named second-team Louisville Slugger All-American, Conference USA Player of the Year and first-team All C-USA utility athlete after leading the team in home runs (18), triples (3) and slugging pct. (.733) at the plate while posting a club-best 131 strikeouts, 9.61 strikeout-per-nine average and a 6.24 strikeout-to-walk ratio from the mound...offensively, leads the team in RBI (63), while ranking second in total bases (151) and on-base percentage (.472), third in batting average (.354) and walks (41), and fourth in doubles (18)... as a pitcher, paces the club in opponent batting average (.232) while ranking second in ERA (3.38), innings pitched (122.2) and wins (11)...leads C-USA in home runs and slugging percentage while ranking third in on-base percenatage, fourth in total bases, sixth in walks and ninth in batting average, offensively...as a pitcher, ranks second in the league in wins, strikeouts, strikeouts looking (39) and innings pitched, tied for third in wins, fourth in opponent batting average, and fifth in ERA...earned C-USA All-Tournament honors as a pitcher after giving up just one run on six hits while striking out nine and not allowing a walk in a 7.0-inning start vs. Houston (May 28) in the semifinals...ranks fourth on the team with 21 multiple-hit games, including four-hit games against UAB (April 3), Charlotte (April 9) and Alabama (June 4)...also has a team-best 19 multi-RBI outings, including a season-best five RBI vs. Memphis (May 6) when he went 2-for-3 with a home run and Alabama (June 4) in day two of the New Orleans Regional...posted eight-or-more strikeouts 11 times, including four double-digit K contests and a career-best 12 at Charlotte (April 8)...had an 11-game hitting streak from April 26-May 20 when he hit .410 (16-for-39) with five doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI." |

Re: Micah Owings
He seems like a very good hitter at the plate. He can hit for sure. The home runs he hit were absolute monsters. I've never seen a pitcher hit two home runs that were that huge.
His stuff didn't look very good on the mound, though. Mostly, he just ran in to a Brandon WebbLagged Braves' bats. |

Re: Micah Owings
He's always been a good hitter. There was no denying that. And his stats will never really jump out at you pitching wise. Even when he was 10-0 at AAA last year his real strength was pitching himself out of jams that he found himself in. He really has a knack for that.

1st pitcher to hit 2 homeruns in a game since Rick Ankiel last week. [/ QUOTE ] Well, not quite. Ankiel was playing OF at the time (obviously no longer pitches). By that logic, Stan Musial has done the same thing. As has Babe Ruth. |
