Default Help with Deep Stack vs. Non-Deep Stack

I've been playing seriously for about 6 months.

I do pretty well online in the .10/.25 or .25/.50 blind structure, but have a hard time at the casino (Live Game) in the $1/$3 blinds.

I am starting to think it could be about the stack size.

Online I buy in a .50 BB game with $50 (max buy in)= 100 * BB

But in the Casino the $3 BB game the max Buy-In is $100 which is only 33 1/3 * BB.

I have posted questions about hands before and people state that the stacks aren't deep enough to make many plays.

I am looking for some advise on playing with a Max Buy-In but still smallish stack vs. BB.

Thanks

With 33.3 BB you can't do much more than value-bet good hands. Use Ed Miller's guidelines to short-stack strategy and you might do quite a bit better in your live games. Basically you are going to be trying to get all-in with good hands by the flop, as you can't really do much else.

Wow. With 33BB you have to make a lot of adjustments. You can't play hands for their implied odds, since you can't get paid off enough to make them worthwhile. For example, playing PP for set value is not good, since you need to make about 15x's of what you put in to play them, so if you are calling a 4BB raise PF, there is no way you will make 60BB when you hit your set if you only have 33BB stack. Also, suited connectors are not worth playing, since the point of playing them is that they don't make hands often, but when they do, you can get paid off big. With 33BB you can't get paid off enough.

You want to play hands that make good TP hands, large PPs, etc., and for 33BB be willing to play for stacks with TPTK, which is something you want to avoid for 100BB.

Here are some resources for playing with a short stack.

Those people are correct. This is pretty much short stack play. You're looking to get all the money in pre flop or on the flop, so you want to start with what is most likely the best hand. It's really that simple. So once you understand that you realize that playing hands like suited 8,9 or mid and low pairs, which need a lot of help on the flop will not be profitable. You won't hit often enough and there isn't enough money left in players stacks to play for implied odds.

Plus, if it's like a typical live game the preflop raise is probably about $12-$20, further negatting any implied odds. It also builds a bigpot for the flop which significantly reduces any fold equity. 3 players all start with $100 and see the flop for $15 each. Pot is $45 and everyone only has $85 left. A bet and a call on the flop commits you. Ifyou bet $35 here and get a call the pot will be $115 and you'll have $50 left. Might as well just push on the flop with a big overbet.

Good Luck
