Uh, the arrow is the triangle that makes up part of the W (and isn't involved in the N). And it's pointing up and to the left, which is Northwest.

i just see it as the arrow being north, making the compass (12 o'clock) pointing NE

i took a cultural studies class a couple years ago and there was lecture on "Branding" and apparently through a bunch of studies and stuff it was shown that the nike swoosh is the most recognizable symbol in the entire world. more than mcdonald's or anything.

also, i do not have any links to anything backing that up. just believe me.
