How can you possibly be happy about grinding all day and ending off financially worse than you were when you started? Poker is hell

I think its because I realised how dramatically unprofitable and unenjoyable poker is whilst I've been unemployed. Ive been unemployed almost 2 months (by choice), played about 80k hands, and won nothing. No money. Almost dead breakeven. Had I been working, I would have like $10,000 guaranteed, in my pocket, no questions asked. Poker is such a grind and such a hassle that its impossible for me not to hate it when I can make so much more money with my time, variance free, in the real world.

Look at it his way:

You make one or two really bad decisions in your life and you're at a point where you won't get those $10,000 for two months. More like $3,000. Or like $0, because it takes you more than two months to actually get a job at all.

While I'm 100% in the education > poker camp, is poker really that bad of a perspective if you missed the education train already?

Solely living off poker is a wierd way to live, since you are never garanteed anything ... and there will be long breakeven streches

But if you are padded right, so you don't go broke, then the hourly is fair (that is if you have the skills) ... you can make say 40$/hr playing poker, which not many jobs pay.

But there is the variance catch ... no question about that.

Still ... I prefer playing poker for a living than my old callcenter (or consultant job as they called it) pushing realestate morgages and banking products for 25$/hr.

But you need some padding and the mindset for keeping tilt at bay.

Poker is actually an excellent complement for an education. It's probably the best job one can have while in College due to the flexible time arrangements that are possible.
