Default hands from downswing session

These hands are from the recent session that caused me to take a break from poker for a while. Assume all villains are aggressive buy generally first level wpex 1/2 players. Looking for more of a theoretical approach on most of these decisions, as I’ve gone through and located most of the “I know better than that” tilt out of the session already.

Grunchy lol i'ma gonna get called out by Guru for changing my opinions in these, since i don't have my original notes to hand

1) It's been raised and capped PF. the c/r is a bit aggro but i may let it slide, following the turn trips is compulsory once you c/r but the river bet was spewy IMO

2) I bet out and hope p4 raises their overs/maybe FD and face p6 to call cold. the c/r seems like an expensive way to get money in when reverse implied odds are working against you here.

3) I don't show this down. you's in some poor shape and i c/f turn if i get past the flop at all.

4) this is why i [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] autoraising to SB completes. After the turn check i think we give away our chances to bluff the river. bet the turn. I understand we have no SD value so should bet the river. but we shouldn't have gotten there as you should bet the turn

5) totally sucky board to WA/WB on. I think fold the flop if good read or turn without. Calling river is pure desperation.

hand 1 wow why are you checkraising this flop heads up? you realise he capped preflop right? your equity is not that good on the flop. his range is weighted towards big pairs (TT-AA=18 combos, AK=9combos) that I don't think will ever fold on this board in this game.

hand 2 looks standard

hand 3 why are you donking the flop into the pfr and capper? your equity here sucks and I don't think you should be worrying about hand protection. check and assess.

hand 4 I wouldn't bother on the river. our line looks like exactly what it is.

hand 5 I would call down too but maybe I shouldn't. maybe call flop fold turn would be better? I can see an aggressive villain taking a stab here but I think a turn follow up is unlikely. his flop line looks like a bluff or jack IMO, and by the river I'm pretty sure it's a jack.

In hand 1 I think you have to give him a wider range there. I know I gave kind of a generic description, but these guys are capable of capping here with AQ and some ATs AJs mid pp type stuff.

Q: How does tilt happen when playing 1/2? Losing even 100BB's could hardly upset me unless I was still in high school or was in serious financial trouble. I think the only times that I tilt are when I'm playing badly. It's irritating when the cards run bad, but nothing messes me up in the head more than making a bad play. Fortunately this doesn't happen too often .

In the first hand - The flop action is a bit frisky. Kinda forces you to bet the turn. On the river, you are hoping this guy calls with AQs or folds AK, because every other scenario has you beat. He could have a hand like TT-QQ here, scared that you have a better pair. But judging from his flop and turn play, 99-JJ may be possible, but also possible is AK, which the villain will fold a good amount. Since AK is more consistent with a cap preflop and just calling a flop check-raise, you may be in good shape on the turn.

However I'm not so sure about the flop check-raise here vs. the preflop capper. Being out of position and risking a potential 3 bets to see a turn makes me wonder about this play. We are already heads up, since the other player folded before us. Raising here doesn't get us a free card, or buy us outs. We are raising here because we think our hand is good. I suppose that check-raising the flop helps us to determine how often villain is holding a pair vs AK/AQ. If he 3-bets, we are usually in trouble (however, it's not uncommon for hero to get 3-bet by AK on this flop too if villain plays/thinks like hero). If he calls the check-raise, 99-JJ is possible, but AQ/AK is also likely - I'd say the unpaired hands are out there more often 65 to 35.

What about the times villain has TT? Does he check behind on the river? It happens. But checking the river invites villain to take a shot with AK/AQ. But he likely will only bet his paired hands, since he will read hero's river check for a hand like 88/99. If he has AK for example, he's happy to showdown and won't consider betting the river. Since villain doesn't bet worse hands on the river, and sometimes checks behind better hands, I would just check the river. The only thing that makes me want to bet this river is that villain's play looks like an unpaired hand like AK/AQ. I'd rather have him check behind TT than have him fold AK (which isn't guaranteed to happen anyway).

you have to stop trying so hard. poker is a tough game but it's not rocket science. trying to squeeze every last bit out of value out of every little marginal situation at these limits is a complete waste of time.

really wasnt trying to squeeze the last drop out of that one. I just felt like i couldn't fold, check/calling and check/folding the turn is getting pwned, and I could still be ahead - so i decided to raise to pick up initiative and go from there.

Sorry for the brief responses...not that you necessarily value my opinion.

1) You aren't folding a better hand and AQ may correctly fold

2) I prefer a flop check/raise like you do: I'd have called that river and think you have to

3) I'd fold the river at the latest..just too much action to not give some credit

4) I'd bet turn

5) That's tough but why isn't he giving you any credit?
