Default I should have layed down the straight flush

I just lost this huge hand and I thought i would share it. I had just sat at the table when this happened so I had no reads. when the villian raises I put him on a pocket pair AA-TT, i call with my nines hoping to flop a set on a small board and break this guy, the rest as they say, is history.

Results in white below:
Hero has 9c 9h (straight flush, king high).
MP2 has As Ah (straight flush, ace high).
Outcome: MP2 wins $30.10.

The thing is, and no one would believe me is that I felt like he very well could have it, I just couldn't possibly bring myself to lay it down. Did I play this badly? Could I have avoided this fate? Is this lay down easier than it looks?
