Default 5/10nl FD makes weak top pair, push river?

This is my first hand at the table and the first hand I've ever played with this villain. I'm mostly looking for river comments, but anything is appreciated. Preflop I sometimes raise but have been doing that a lot tonight so opted not to. I think my turn bet should have been a little bigger but not too big a deal. River feels like I have to be ahead almost always but it also feels like he's going to fold almost everything too.

Looks like the guy is either letting you hang yourself and willing to risk the flush cards coming or drawing to the flush also. In either case you've got to check surely? I'm a noob though so :E

Betting the turn and the river sucks here. Are you VBing or are you bluffing?

On the turn I figured draws were still a big part of his range and wanted to VB against those (plus the occasional smaller pair), plus I may fold a better hand once in a while. TBH I think I was also making the turn bet as a bit of a blocking bet, planning to check behind on most rivers - if I check the turn I'm going to call a bet on the river anyway, by betting now and checking the river I get the same amount in, charge draws, and build a bigger pot if I hit my flush and am good. When the river hit it just felt like his line was so weak I really didn't think he had a better hand, so I VB figuring he'd fold but hoping to get a call from 8x or T9 or something.

I'm holdem2000 on stars too, 5/10nl and up aren't my regular games anymore though, I just pop up when I don't feel like playing a bunch of tables.

Ok cool. On the hand I like everything up until the River. I don't like betting mainly because it started out as a 7 way pot so not only does it make it much more likley he has you beat, but it should also signal to him that you have a stronger hand than you actually have by the river. I have a very hard time thinking you will get called by worse unless villan is terrible, and it's much more common you are called by better and end up valuestacking yourself.

I would check behind on this river verses an unknown. I dont see him calling with anything that we have beat. especially in a multiway pot like this

You need reads for this line, imo, to have a guess if he calls down here JJ or a FD+pair(A2hh) or made a monster.

Against the right player you make him laydown some winning hands.
You still beat the A2hh, 99. Whats villians name?
Smells like JJ.
Cant see here a FH. So with your massive river bet you COULD make him lay down that hand. against the right villian.
SUM: i check behind. but i like that move.
