Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
Played for the first time in a long time the other day, and wasn't real happy with my 84 since it came with two doubles and a triple, and bogeys on a couple of REALLY easy holes. Still, it was absolutedly beautiful outside, and it won't be that way for a while, so it was a blast.
Played wolf, and the outcome showed how messed up and fun that game can be. Played with two 12 handicaps, a 15, and a 5. The five is a long ball monster, but can be pretty inconsistent with his drives. He shot a 75, but managed to only win 3 points while we each had 19, 16, and 15 (there are variations, but we play Lone Wolf pre-shot, 3 points; lone wolf post shot, 2 points; partner, 2 points; lone wolf post shots, 1 point (but from three people)). He went lone wolf on three of the five holes where he was wolf, and lost all three. It was a good strategy given that one of the holes was a par 4 that he could drive, and the other a par 5 where he was the only one who could reach in two. Didn't quite work out, as he parred two of them against birdies, and bogeyed the other against a par. |

Shot 83 in a true alternate shot tournament. Hate the format.

82. Had a lot of putts inside 12 feet, not many dropped. Even with an easy course setup, I'm still pretty satisfied.

OK, summary of my rounds this year. * = ~6,000 yards ** = ~ 7,000 yards All other courses are about 6,500-6,600. 54-48-102* 54-64-118 54-60-114 49-59-108 51-50-101 66-60-126 51-64-115 55-58-113 52-59-111 50-55-105 59-54-113 53-55-108 68-58-118** 51-54-105 49-51-100 48-52-100 61-61-122 56-48-104* 42-48-90* 57-49-106 48-45-93* 52-46-98* 50-47-97* 55-47-102 51-52-103 48-52-100 53-42-95 [/ QUOTE ] Bears Best shot my best round of the year. Front 9 just couldn't put anything together. Two triples, no pars, simply ugly. Back 9: On 10 I shanked my drive, hit a nice recovery to 50 yards. In the sand, then up and down for bogey. From there I had this stretch: missed 10 footer for par par par par par missed 7 footer for par missed 6 footer for par Definitely my best stretch, like ever, and on a pretty tough course. Finished with double for a 42 on the back. Really chipped well on the back, including 3 outstanding bunker shots. |

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
Participated in possibly the weirdest scramble I've ever been a part of: me, a ~20 handicapper, and two of his friends who were 30 and +36 handicappers. Very strange, we somehow only finished six shots out of first. I'd like to think I rallied/motivated them to good shots, but it's probably more like I kept us from getting bogeys and they pitched in at the right time. Not sure we could have done much better, to be honest. Perfect weather though, teed off in the morning and apparently it got to 97 today, which is kinda LOL for late October.

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
76 @ Bear Mountain yesterday from the tips. Incl a double on the first hole. Was having an amazing week, and then the morning of my round, I get a wicked hang-nail on my right ring finger (pretty bad spot for someone who overlaps)...really took me awhile to adjust to it and I couldn't really 'go after' my shots...was so annoyed.
But, +4 is still pretty decent. So, I had fun. |

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
Terrible 101 at Cannon Ridge in Fredericksburg, Va., on Saturday. We played the blues at ~6100 yards, but it was playing a lot longer since it rained for like two days leading up to our tee time.
Hadn't played in a couple weeks and the soggy conditions didn't help me any. Should have probably shot mid 90s, but flubbed several pitches. Did have a nice par-par stretch that included perhaps the best three-iron I've ever hit, into the wind on an 185-yard par three. As an aside, I really hate riding when the rules are cartpath only. I probably should have walked, but our cart came with our email special reduced greens fees and my friend (who has a torn ACL) wanted to ride. I always feel rushed because it takes forever to get to my ball, and when I'm on an unfamiliar course, I occasionally end up with the wrong club. -McGee |

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
Just got back from my first nine holes ever. I've been taking lessons for about a month, 5 hours of lessons total. Shot a 60 (par 33) with one mulligan, made par on #9 by driving into the bunker, putting out to about three feet away and making the putt. I was glad my instructor suggested the putter, since the time he hit into a bunker a few holes earlier, I tried a few practice sand shots and whiffed like 5 out of 6.
Other than that had 3 6s on par 4s that I was happy about. I made an 8 on one of the other par 3s, drive was a bit to the right and short but playable, hacked two more to the fringe, chipped over the green, chipped back onto the green, then 3 putted. This game is not easy. |
