why not go for an overcall??

Did you misread something? Hero is on the button preflop so that the only players who have any real chance of folding are the blinds. With so many limpers, who cares?

yikes ... yes - i thought it was a river comment

yeah - i would raise pre flop too ...

*grunch*

I'd raise preflop to build a big pot for my nice multiway hand.

Flop and turn standard.

River: Hero calls and hopes for an overcall from SB. UTG+1 is now all-in so no point in raising to drive out SB.

I'd raise preflop for value and initiative.

If the villain is one of those guys that's prone to bet/raise (more often than not as a bluff) because he's nearly all-in, then I'd raise the river.
Else call.

:g:

I agree with everything up to river. crying call on river.

edit: after reading comments, raising pre-flop is probably better than calling.

in spots like this raise like every suited hand with 2 cards 10 or higher in LP. maybe even T9s.

Ed Miller's Small Stakes Hold'em has preflop raising ranges that I think are very effective.

I'm not sure if many starting hand charts are adjusted so that KTs becomes a raising hand after many limpers. The point is knowing why you would raise in this spot and deviate from the rigid starting hand charts.

Here's a post by the aforementioned Ed Miller discussing preflop: Take off the training wheels

Here you have two EP (open)limpers + two extra limpers with possibly worse hands than yours and a suited broadway hand that won't win most of the time but when it does you'll win big. Pump the pot for those times by raising - you are in position too. EP limpers are probably bad, you'll want to against them in this pot.
