Default Nexgens, Diamonds, Faux Clay ????

Did a search or two on the forums and google......head is kind of spinning....

Not really looking for anything crazy....looking to buy a 1000 chip set for family low stakes, Single table tourneys, and maybe .25 and .50 $50 buyin nl.....

Leaning towards the Nexgens but thoughts on the Faux Clay and Diamonds are appreciated...

Are the Nexgens significantly better than the Cheapo Dice set I have from Target??

Does anyone have any input on the acrylic cases with ten racks instead of the Aluminum case???

Thanks... [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

You need to get samples, and you need to go to these sites:

I have been considering getting the Dunes replica set - you may like it too. Can anyone here comment on this set?

I have a set of Nexgens, and a bird cage case. Both work fine. The Nexgens are another composite chip, but compared to others in the same price range, looks quite different. To me all the other low end composites look like dice chips with slight variations. The Nexgens are quite different, different color schemes etc.

Warning: Once you get the Nexgens, you will only be happy with them for a short time because you will then want clay chips.

I like my Nexgens, but I want clays now. I will probably end up buying some clays somewhere, and then be mad cause I didn't get Paulsons. Chips become that way for some, check homepoker and chiptalk. They'll tell ya. After the chip fetish is satisfied, you're gonna want plastic cards, and then a better table and then a... oh it goes on and on.

The bird cages are the better cases imho. The racks are great ways to count up chips etc. Each slot holds 20, a rack holds 100. The cases become traps for felt lint, and whatever else decides to float in and stick to the velvet linings they have. They racks are great for cash games as well. When you get your Nexgens and customize them with labels, the case will show them off.

If your poker scene is like mine, everyone uses dice chips and bicycle cards on the kitchen table, or patio if it is outside. When I host, everyone oohs and ahhs over the different set up, Nexgens with custom labels and denoms on the back (I wouldn't denom 'em again if given choice but that is a whole other conversation), Copag and KEM cards on a table built for poker. Don't get me wrong, this is not a baller set up by any means. It's just different than the standard dice chip, kitchen table game.

[/ QUOTE ]I've ordered a set of those and should have them in first of next week. I'll let you know once I get them. The folks who got the sample sets of them raved about them, fwiw.

Here is a basic nexgen set:

http://www.discountcasinogear.com/st...oduct2070.html

I have these and I also had the dice chips. Yes, these feel, look, sound, stack significantly better. I also have used this with family. Even without denominations, beginners can still grasp what each chip is worth fairly quickly. Just use the same (standard) value each time you play and soon it will be second nature (i.e. white=1, red=5, green=25, etc.).

I also recommend this: http://www.discountcasinogear.com/st...oduct4519.html

And this: http://www.discountcasinogear.com/st...oduct4776.html

I might sound like I work there but I don't, just a satisfied customer who can recommend them.

These also seem very nice for the money ($250 for a set of 500).

The place I go for my live poker uses Dice for the sit-n-gos and Nexgens (I think) for the bigger tournies, so those are what I have experience with. Trust me, there is a huge difference. A bigger difference than the difference between Nexgens and true clays, I'd reckon.

If you go with a cheaper non-labeled chip, which on a budget is still a good idea, here is a link to a label site. I was very impressed with how quickly and inexpensively I got my labels. I have the Nexgens and albeit not great chips are much much much better than the dice chips. They sound and stack so much better. Good choice unless you want to drop a pretty penny. Takes a little time to label them but once done they look great and look more expensive.
