Crazy...Sharks go from trading 2 first round picks to having 2 first round picks again. LOL

Patrecki is a great pick that slid a bit. Nice grab by the Sharks.

and will now be living off Crosby and Malkin

Hmmm, we traded up once again... just heard it but didn't hear the details. Is it 8,000 picks to move up 5 spots now?

Nice, we got a big d-man. Ranked 14th by TSN

Edit: Awesome, just read about the kid. Supposed to be the toughest kid in this draft BY FAR.

I'm liking this draft. GJ Sharks organization.

Cherapanov and Esposito dropped a long way, but they dropped to some high profile teams in the Rangers and Penguins. Pens are trying to compete with Sharks for most centers on one team. I'm not sure, but I think that's 4 straight first round picks on centers.

EDIT: Nevermind. I guess Malkin is a wing. Didn't he used to be a center?

EDIT 2: Yeah, drafted as a center.

[/ QUOTE ]

The fact that Cherepanov went so late lowers his chances of being a bust significantly. With Russians, its all about proving people wrong and doing the unexpected, so if he went #3, he would almost certainly pull a Pavel Brendl and just decide to not show up to the NHL. Now, I'd say he's at least 50-50, though 15 goals per year a la Alexei Morozov is definitely a possibility even if he makes it.

Its still very, very +EV for him longterm that they "made him cry".

As a Leafs fan I am shocked we made a short sighted trade.

I think Ferguson is more worried about his job at this point. The Leafs future is a mess.

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. My biggest problem is that he doesn't seem to have a plan. Lets get players and hope we win. That being said barring some major conference power shift, I feel we have to have a good shot at making the playoffs with Toskala and Bell.

Bluefox,

Toskala and Bell to the Leafs...Sharks get 3 draft picks (13th overall today, 2nd rounder, and 2009 4th). Whatcha think? You think they could have grabbed some NHL ready talent, but they can handle losing Toskala and Bell. Worst part for me is a #13 this year isn't a strong pick.

I forget what they gave up for Guerin, but this seems almost like them trying to get back some of the picks they had to give up.

[/ QUOTE ]

Leafs suck so bad. They could have given up a little bit more and gotten Vokoun, without having Bell as a dead weight contract.

sigh... I was hoping it was the coyotes that traded up to anaheims pick for cherapanov. At least they will be in the tavares sweepstakes whenever they allow him into the draft, but next year is going to be depressing to watch.
