Default Attn Casino BJ Whores -- Just got some \"Tips\" from a casino ....

[ QUOTE ]
The object of Blackjack is to get a total value of cards as close to 21 as possible without going over and beat the dealer's total. Numbered cards are worth their face value. Face cards - Kings, Queens and Jacks - are each worth 10. Aces are worth either 1 or 11, whichever is better in the circumstances.

Here are some Blackjack tips to get you going:

1) Remember that you need to beat the dealer to win. Players often forget this and concentrate on getting 21 – watch the dealer's hand as well as yours.

2) Always take a card on 16 or lower because you can't win unless the dealer goes bust.

3) Always split aces.

4) Never split face cards, 10's or 5's

I think I might have found leaks in my game with #1 and #2

I wonder how many people will take this strategy to heart?? Unfortunately, there are bound to be some.

Well, re: #2----Why would you take a hit with a 12-16 or less if the dealer has a 12-16??? Let him bust. If you bust and the dealer plays out because of another player at the table and busts--you still lose. Let the dealer bust. There are variances to that rule but that is the general consenous of opinion.

BINGO ... WE have awinner!!!!

I thought that #2 was just HORRIBLE.

And as for #1, anyone who falls into that group described just shouldn't even be allowed in the door.

I just found these tips to be VERY amusing when I was reading them, and thought I'd share.

poorolrich - I HOPE to god you are kidding. There are NOW variances to that rule UNLESS you are counting

Trust me - only a complete fool stays on a 16. Maybe Austin Powers!!

Correct, you obviously should never hit on a 16 if the dealer has a 6 or lower for his up-card.

Just use the basic-strategy chart on wizardofodds and you'll be fine.

Their advice is absolutely terrible obviously.

FWIW - when I dealt blackjack I would have a new player at my table almost EVERY day who would forget to look at the dealer's up-card and would just focus on playing their hand. Everything at the game was moving too fast for them and they kept forgetting to think about anything else. They would see 15, remember that everybody told them to hit on their 15 on the last hand, and forget the fact that THIS time the dealer was showing a 4.

My GF is pretty much this way at blackjack as well which is why she doesn't play very much.

I think following #2 may increase the HA to the double at least.

If HA is around 1-1.5% I would think that ALWAYS taking a card on 16 or lower would probably increase their edge by more than double.

Somebody out there could run a sim if they really wanted to. Do they have such capabilities on WOO?

My bet would be that the HA would be 5% or higher with such a poor strategy. But if you are doing ALL the other things correctly (such as NEVER taking even-money or insurance, always doubling when you're supposed to, etc) then perhaps the always-hit 12-16 strategy wouldn't take it up to 5%.

It's hard to estimate for such a ridiculous scenario because anybody who does this almost certainly is not going to get all the other strategies correct,

I'm pretty sure the house edge at most online casino's is less then this. You should always play perfectly when in front of your computer as their are different charts for each casino based on their exact rules.

You're right.

Checking WOO with no resplits allowed (like Intercasino) with 8 decks (which is what I am guessing IC uses), standing on soft-17 and it's only 0.48% with perfect BS which kind of surprised me. I thought it would be higher for some reason but it's been awhile since I've paid much attention to any of this blackjack stuff.
