Default Brandon Phillips Double Steal

[ QUOTE ]
Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young held Phillips on the base while the rest of the defense shifted over one position, leaving third baseman Ryan Zimmerman in the position normally occupied by the shortstop.

Phillips noticed this formation often, and had been plotting to steal two bases at just the right opportunity.

Phillips took off to steal second base, which he did without a throw from the Nationals. He then turned toward third and hustled toward the base before the Nationals could adjust to what was happening.

Top 4th: Cincinnati
- J. Keppinger singled to right center
- K. Griffey Jr. grounded into double play first to third, J. Keppinger out at second
- B. Phillips singled to right center
- B. Phillips stole third

- A. Dunn flied out to deep right center

The video is on the MLB.com front page but the video is not on youtube yet. I'll try to post it once it gets there.

How baller is this? Has anyone ever heard of anything else similar?

Willie Mays Hayes took two bases at once, but that was on a bunt and run and it was from second to home.

This steal was so sick, no hesitation.

Pedroia went first to third on a cleanly fielded walk last night.

[ QUOTE ]
Pedroia tried to hustle the Red Sox into a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the inning. The rookie second baseman hit a one-out single and Ortiz followed with a walk. Catcher Ramon Hernandez took a couple of steps toward the mound after ball four and Pedroia never stopped running, moving all the way to third.

also just because there is no throw doesn't mean defensive indifference. if it's a close game and you just get such a sick jump they know they can't get you, it's a steal. defensive indifference is when you're up like eight runs and stealing bases to pad your stats.

Yeah, which was the case (7-0, no throw). However, rereading the article it says it was scored as 2 steals, so maybe they decided the throw to 3rd cancels out the indifference.
