Can someone please explain what exactly the big difference in the pip layout is? Not sure why people are concerned about it...I think I may give them a try, although I would prefer bridge size...

Thanks

OK, here is the controversial "4" and the intersting "7" comapred to the gold standard, the Kem Arrrow. Note that the Desjgn has a more ruby red, more decorative font, and a more artistic pip placement for the "7" (and a more controversial pip placement for the "4").

I didn't realize it until now, but one of the things that make the Desjgn cards stand out is the ultra-white cardstock. Note the Kems look slightly yellow by comparison.

Well, this is my Friday night, what are you doing?

Reading your post, watching Hawaii gack away my bet and their splash on national TV.

By the way, my desjgn cards arrived in the mail yesterday, and I really like the feel of the cards and the bright color contrast.

The court card and suit design is stylish. Close enough that there is no doubt as to what they are, different enough to be distinct.

As to the placement, I have to get them in a game to tell you if it's a problem.

Sorry to hear about the 5-0. I am still quite bored tonight, so here is a graphical comparison of all the cards in my card room. If anything the Desjgn are white, white, white! The Copag 4-color are especially disappointing. I mean if you are going to make a 4-color deck and charge the ungodly amount ($35/2 decks?) I paid for them, at least make the colors look slightly better than a really bad photocopy.

BTW, I really dig the backs on the Copag plastic cards. Very nice! Too bad their colors are so faded. Compared to some of the others they are almost pastel.

Just came from a home game...yes I failed to make the money twice....sigh

Anyhow...Copags were the cards...after I busted out I began to deal....

Not a big fan of the cards...seemed VERY flimsy and slick...

Are Kems as good as they once were since being bought out by US Playing Card? I'm leaning towards Dal Negro and Modiano, but I'm gonna give the Desjgn a shot too...

The local casino uses Gemaco, I love the feel but the pips are all wearing off of the cards terribly...has anyone seen that with the Gemaco cards or are the defective seconds???

Thanks..Bossman

TrvChBoy,

Do you own Dal Negros? If not you need to try them.

OK, I just bought a set of Dal Negros with the 4 index faces.

By the way, I guess I forgot to post this last night. A closer look at the Kem and Desjgn "4"s:

For 7-10, the desjgn pip layout is different, but in one case (the 9) I think may be an improvement. Very easy to see that square pattern and recognize it as a nine. But I think for 7-10 you are index glancing more often than not.

The four really is the only confusing one of the bunch, because it is a low index where it is easy to count the pips.

I think a simple change to a diamond pattern would still be different from standard but more distinct from the three pip arrangement:

But it's a minor problem at best.

Basically, if it bothers you, don't use these. Otherwise, the desjgn cards are worth a shot.

Dal Negros are BY FAR the best playing card I have ever used. I have the 4 color ones. I think I would kinda prefer the regular ones.

I really like that 4. Nice change from the same old same old and still easily distinguished from any other card.
