Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
I was in AC this weekend, and I saw a troubling management decision at the Borgata. Basically, they kept moving 20-40 games in and out of the high limit area. Apparently, they hoped that some bigger games would materialize in the evening, so they moved the 20-40 games onto the main floor around mid-day. At around 9 pm, they realized the bigger games weren't appearing, and they moved the 20-40 games back into the high limit area.
I was on the second 20-40 table, which was opened on the main floor, so I only moved once (they took our game into the high limit area around 9 pm). The first 20-40 table was moved twice. They took it out of the high limit area around 1 pm, and moved it back into the high limit area at some time after 9 pm. Maybe this won't be the practice once the new room opens. However, I thought this was very disrespectful of players who have been the bread and butter of this room. They need to fill 85 tables, and disrupting the games of 20-40 players in the hope that some bigger players will show up seems like bad business. |

Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
I think it reflects pretty poorly on the room. In my experience when tables get broken or moved constantly players who are stuck or steaming take it as a clue to leave or decide they are too lazy to move and just quit. It tends to break alot of good games.

Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
The bread and butter of the Borgata poker room is the NL games, esp. 1-2 NL, not 20-40 LHE.

Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
Kind of inconvenient for the 20-40 game, but on the other hand it seems a bit weird when there's a 80-160 right next to the podium. That might be bad for business, too. Of course, I have no real sample size or business impact studies, but most folks at the Borgata seems pretty accomodating about this kind stuff. Usually.
I for one don't mind getting moved into the high limit room after starting in the main room, so I don't have a problem with it and at 9PM, very few people are not moving to the new table. I don't know... based on the high opinion of the importance of the 20-40 game (bread and butter?) and that "kept moving" was one table moved out/in after 8 hours and one table moved in....AND that this may not even be an issue in a few days, I'm thinking "eh". I was really expecting something "bigger". |

I never pay attention to limit, so I have no idea how many tables of that they will fill, but I'm sure it will be alot. |

Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
If I owned a casino, I'd rather see my property attract ten $20-40 players than 100 $1-2 NL players.

Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
Just FYI, by "bread and butter," I meant regulars, not 20-40 players (although in this case the regulars who were affected were 20-40 players). My point was that the casino should not alienate regulars in the course of trying to recruit bigger games.

Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games
Would 10 20/40 players generate more rake/time, book more hotel rooms, pay for more dinners, tip more dealers/waitresses etc than 100 1/2NL players?
A steady 10/25+NL player might be worth 10+ 1/2 NL players, but not an "average" 20/40. Even if image is a consideration. |
